We are leaders in plasma-derived medicines and transfusion medicine and develop, produce and market innovative medicines, solutions and services in more than 110 countries and regions.Job Summary:This position is responsible for providing automation engineering support and ownership for all automated systems on site within the scope of the Manufacturing Technical Support department at Grifols Diagnostic Solutions. The position executes assignments of advanced complexity, troubleshooting manufacturing issues and independently developing/implementing innovative and robust solutions, upgrades, and improvements to manufacturing equipment/systems.Job Responsibilities:

Ensures continuous operation of manufacturing by troubleshooting/maintaining /improving on-site systems, equipment, and instrumentation in FDA /GMP regulated environment.

Provides SME leadership for owned systems/equipment including filling machines, labelers, water systems, CIP/COP systems, etc.

Engineering system owner for automation systems and equipment associated with diagnostic manufacturing processes (e.g. Red Blood Cell, Gel Card, and Nucleic Acid Testing)

Project Management - independently leads small to medium improvement projects for owned systems and equipment. Collaborates with cross function teams on high complexity projects.

Responsible for providing engineering support related to the design and implementation of both new and upgraded facilities, systems and equipment including automation design, review, commissioning, startup and qualification of Manufacturing equipment.

Perform root cause investigations for Quality Events, Deviations, CAPAs for owned equipment/systems.

Owns equipment change controls from generation to closure.

Writes, reviews, and executes various equipment validation documents: URS, FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ.

Implements metrics to monitor performance and reliability of owned equipment/systems.

Products and services delivered on time in high quality to all customers during projects and operational support.

Supports preventative maintenance and calibration activities for owned systems and documents work in the CMMS.

Capable of adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GxP) - Compliance, Change Control, Quality Oversight, Validation.

After hours support may be required. (On-Call)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong technical competence in automation technology implemented in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry

Hands-on experience with process equipment and utility systems including equipment for liquid dispensing, bottle capping, torque application, labeling, packaging, purification, high purity water

Experience with Filling Machines and Labelers - mechanical and automation

Experience with Water systems (e.g. RO, DI)

Design and/or owner experience with Rockwell Automation System (PLC, HMI, DCS)

Experience with robotics, PLCs, PLC networks, drives, motor controls, sensors, automation components, control instrumentation, proportional valves, servo controls, SCADA, HMI, vision systems and other automation platforms

Project management skills and ability to handle multiple projects

Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams, electrical wiring diagrams, electronic schematics

Ability to generate and maintain system documentation - Drawings, P&IDs, SOPs, URS, FRS, DDS

Ability to effectively work with a cross functional team to achieve expected results

Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills (written and oral)

Mechanical aptitude

Good understanding of 21CFR11 and ISPE GAMP guidance document

Knowledge of industrial networks and SCADA systems

Knowledge of control panel design

Experience with Siemens BMS/BAS and temperature monitoring systems is a plus

5S, OpEx, and Lean manufacturing experience a plus

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 6-8 years of industrial experience, preferred in pharmaceutical/biotech operations, with working knowledge of production unit operations, cGMPs, FDA regulatory guidelines, and validation principles.

Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally.PayScale:The estimated pay scale forAutomation Engineer III role based in San Diego, California is $102,083 to $152124 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 8% of the company bonus pool.
