Grid Integration Engineer – Generation and Large LoadJob Summary:As the power system continues to evolve, refining our integration processes to address the challenges presented by power electronics-based generation and large loads (e.g., data centers) is critical to laying the foundation for the future grid. This position will focus on providing support to reliably integrate new generators and large loads into the Southern Companies’ Transmission System.This position will be filled from entry to senior engineer level based on the candidate’s experience.Job Responsibilities

Engage in the Generator and Large Load integration process and work cross-functionally with both internal and external groups to obtain official approvals for operation.

Perform technical analysis, ensuring new Generators and Large Loads to interconnection and operational requirements.

Support stability engineer to maintain repository of dynamic and power flow models for Generators and Large Loads to perform real-time stability analysis.

Conduct voltage and reactive power analysis related to testing after Commercial Operations (e.g., MOD-025 etc.)

On behalf of the Southern Company Transmission, serve as additional contact for Generator and Large Load interconnection issues that are operational in nature.

Education Requirements

A four (4) year B.S. Engineering Degree from a U.S.-based ABET-accredited institution is required

A degree in Electrical or Engineering Technology degree preferred.

An Advanced degree (master’s and/or PhD) in Engineering is a plus.

Experience Requirements

Experience with generation controls, design and protection is a plus.

Experience working with power system modeling and analytical tools such as CAPE, PSS/E etc. is a plus.

Familiarity with computer programming (such as but not limited to C, Visual Basic, VB.Net, or Python) is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behavioral Attributes

Knowledge of Power System load flow analysis, Control Systems, Electric Machine Theory, and Symmetrical Components is preferred.

Excellent analytical and technical problem-solving skills with a diverse set of working groups.

Strong communication and presentation skills is a plus.

Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize work effectively and adhere to deadlines.

Ability to work well within cross-functional teams

Be self-motivated, results-oriented, innovative, and work well in a team environment.

Must be a self-starter.
