You will be supporting the DoD High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) User Productivity Enhancement and Training (PET) initiative. As the lead computational scientist for your team, you will join a team of innovative and savvy engineers and computational scientists. We focus on building collaborative relationships with the HPC community to better understand customer technology needs and challenges. Our team of computational scientists help solve the HPC challenges for DoD scientists and engineers across the Army, Navy and Air Force.The HPCMP PET team was created to provide expert computational support for users of the supercomputing systems within the DoD. The team serves as a customer-facing presence for the DoD science and technology community, providing SME advice for new initiatives, ongoing projects, and support needs.The position is remote with some travel to Mississippi required. However, you must be available during the core hours in the Central Time Zone and available to travel for 3-4 days at a time about 6 times a year for meetings and customer engagement.How the High Performance Computing Lead will make an impact:Engage with HPC community to build an understanding of HPC needs (both current and future). Stay current with new technology solutions and optimizations in HPC.Drive exploration and innovation of new technologies and capabilities relevant to HPC computing and collaborate with your team and other technical teams to evaluate for future implementation.Leading your team, and the primary customer interface for day to day activities for your team.Leading or attending meetings and discussions with team members and customers to troubleshoot complicated technical problems and brainstorm ways to continuously improve our services.Working closely with your team members and other Team Leads to enhance and expand fundamental HPC capabilities and complete technical projects.Act as an active member of the program, leading and solving technical projects on HPCs.Occasionally present to senior leadership on HPC best practices, new technologies, and ways you approached and solved challenging technical issues.Advising your team members on technical challenges and assisting them in identifying available resources.What you’ll need to be successful:PhD and ten additional years of work experienceMinimum of eight years of relevant HPC experienceExperience working on technology projects, which includes meeting the schedule on time and managing customer expectations.Familiarity with commonly used HPC applications and services (i.e., SLURM schedulers, high performance file systems, such as Lustre or SpectrumScale, modules for installing applications, compilers, MPI, OpenMP, profiling tools)Background in physics-based computation, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD); computational structural mechanics (CSM); computational electromagnetics and acoustics (CEA) is beneficial.Ability to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical usersExperience analyzing solutions components, understanding systems integration challenges, and identifying technology gaps that must be resolved to reach performance targets and functionality requirements.Innovative mindset: Push to understand needs in-depth and think broadly and creatively about solutions.Organization: Track and manage tasks across concurrent efforts with different customer groups, and ensure delivery is on schedule and as planned.Trust: Ability to build and maintain trust of our team and customer base.Science: Be able to understand (at a high-level) what is driving research and how HPC can best support and enable this.Must be able to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.We are GDIT.
