Alamo Group Inc. is currently accepting applications to fill the position of Manager, Advanced Vehicle Technology at its Technical Center located in Huntsville, AL.Reporting to the Director of Advanced Vehicle Technology, the Manager of Advanced Technology will be responsible for managing the Advanced Technology Center in the design, development, and integration of innovative technology including but not restricted to electric and hybrid powertrain systems to meet performance goals of vehicles manufactured by Alamo Group Inc.The Manager of Advanced Vehicle Technology will:

Lead a team of engineers and technicians developing technology to support Alamo Group’s various divisions through prototype development, system development, paper designs or active consulting.

Perform detailed trade studies and design space exploration of electric and hybrid powertrain systems (including the physical, electrical, and controls architecture and integration aspects) with emphasis on safety, quality, and cost; includes leading in system, subsystem, and/or vehicle level HARA and DFMEA’s.

Establish reasonable project development schedules and resource estimations from concept to production implementation of the system(s).

Document electric and hybrid powertrain system requirements and decompose into component and integration requirements as needed for each project.

Manage technical aspects of multiple system integration and validation projects.

Interact with purchasing, testing, manufacturing, and external suppliers as needed for the successful completion of projects.

Create and execute electric and hybrid powertrain system and/or component functionality/reliability testing/validation plans prior to vehicle insertion where/when appropriate; facilitate issue root-causing and resolution.

Support vehicle level validation plan development related to electric & hybrid powertrain system functionality and reliability, reviews test results, and troubleshoots and resolves issues as needed.

Create and maintain design documentation including system architecture and/or flow charts as needed.

Identify and communicate risks related to the design, development, and implementation of the electric and hybrid powertrain subsystem and/or its integration with other systems/subsystems.

Support the development and continuous improvement of processes, tools, documentation, training materials, etc. to support a sustained capability within the organization.

Perform other duties/assignments as requested.

The ideal candidate will have/be:

Required experience leading R&D team of engineers to design or improve products.

In-depth understanding of various electric & hybrid vehicle architectures, systems, subsystems, etc. at various voltage levels (36V/48V, 100V, 350V+, etc.) including component design, selection, & mating

System-level design of vehicle or machine control systems experience including system/subsystem level tradeoff analysis, troubleshooting, CAN networks and calibration.

Experience with mechanical systems and electric rotating machines

Experience with Class 6-8 truck chassis design and modification

Firsthand experience using electrical/software networking, test, and analysis equipment.

Demonstrated competency in large mobile wire harness design and manufacture or

Demonstrated expertise in CAD (i.e.Solidworks, Creo, etc.) designing rotating machines.

Strong planning and project management skills with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects and priorities.

Product development experience.

Demonstrated success with engineering problem solving approach.

Able to motivate, develop, and coach people to perform at their highest potential with the ability to select and implement the best teaching methods to facilitate desired outcomes.

Able to build and foster effective business relationships with customers and other departments within the organization.

Effective communication skills both verbal and written. Ability to communicate effectively with various levels within the organization.

Demonstrated ability to influence without authority.

Demonstrated success working in cross-functional, multi-location teams.

Advanced computer skills using design/analysis and Microsoft Office software tools.

Able to work irregular and/or long hours that may include weekends and/or holidays as project requirements dictate.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering required

Minimum 5-7 years’ experience in electric/hybrid powertrain system development

10+ years of experience in the power, transportation, or similar industry as an engineer or management level employee.

Working Conditions:Work performed in an office environment, with frequent sitting and standing for extended periods. Walking in and around a manufacturing plant is a requirement during on-sight facility visits for vehicle building, testing, etc. May be required to travel 20% of time by automobile and/or common air carrier; overnight stays required.Alamo Group is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action employer.
