Overview:This position is responsible for providing consultation and guidance to (1) senior management and (2) Regulatory Affairs management and other members with respect to broad statutory and regulatory matters (current and emerging regulatory risks, trends, and themes) and their impact on the bank’s business model, strategy, and events. A primary component of the position will be frequent interaction with regulatory agency personnel, with personnel of various Trade Groups (BPI, ABA, CBA, etc.), with vendors relevant to the Regulatory Affairs function (e.g.,CAPCO) and with management and specialists in first, second (including M & T Legal) and third lines (including M&T Audit), Another key component of the position includes management of ad hoc projects and other initiatives relating to Bank risk management and regulatory and statuary developments, including, for example: (1) organizing Bank personnel and management from multiple lines in the preparation of responses to proposed rules (including with trade group efforts), (2) conducting research and preparing talking points and research pieces for management discussions with regulators; and (3) managing projects initiated to implement new regulatory requirements and for the bank to comply with annual regulatory requirements, including certifications. This position will also require ongoing participation in, and co-management of, the regulatory monitoring function, including by helping to analyze incoming enforcement actions and SR letters and intelligence items issued by International jurisdictions.Primary Responsibilities:

Co-manage the Regulatory Monitoring function

Assist in providing consultation, advice, and guidance regarding the application of bank regulatory rules to current and contemplated business models, potential transactions and events interfacing with, senior management, and various control staffs. Effectively communicate applicable requirements to cross-functional partners throughout the organization (i.e. line-of-business, Finance, Credit, etc.).

Research, track and report emerging regulatory issues with may involve analysis of regulatory issues relative to relevant regulatory provisions.

Conduct thorough research and analysis on regulatory reporting and other regulatory matters and presenting results in a clear and concise manner.

Participate in the development of tailored regulatory presentations.

Act in a consultative capacity to review and critique presentation materials and/or talking points of others with respect to bank regulatory matters and implications.

Assist with coordination of correspondence with regulatory agencies, examination management (as applicable) and responding to regulatory requests. Ensure communications and submissions meet applicable requirements. Establish, enhance, and maintain consistency of regulatory related correspondence and reporting across functional areas.

Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Scope of Responsibilities:Partner with cross-functional working teams to include lines of business, Credit, and Finance, to ensure compliance with critical regulatory requirements and understand the impact of strategic business initiatives on capital requirements.Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities:May need to manage other Regulatory Affairs personnel, as well as contributors from other parts of the Bank, in the design and implementation of projects and regulatory exam efforts and will need to co-manage the Regulatory Monitoring function.Education and Experience Required:Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, Business or related discipline, or four (4) years of audit, regulatory or risk management experience specifically within the banking industry in lieu of degree.Minimum seven (7) years relevant work experience.Working knowledge of bank supervisory processes or experience working with bank regulatory matters.Demonstrated knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance issues related to the banking industry.Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products, especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word.Education and Experience Preferred:Solid ability to organize projects and keep efforts on track.Advanced ability to apply critical thinking skills and to challenge management where needed.Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate in an articulate and professional manner.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to convey complex and/or nuanced concepts in an effective and understandable manner.Ability to recognize interrelationships and interdependencies.Ability to independently manage work across initiatives, exhibiting a high degree of flexibility, productivity, and ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail.Physical Requirements:Travel may be required in minimal instances.LocationClanton, Alabama, United States of AmericaM&T Bank Corporation is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, including disabilities and veterans.
