Senior Technical Writer Analyst to join our team to support the Aviation weapons system platform. Individual is responsible for reviewing and ensures documentation meets program requirements and Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL). Reviews and edits technical documentation to include formatting, document numbers, CDRL numbers, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Writes in clear and concise language, such technical documents as procedure manuals, service manuals, and related technical publications concerned with operation and maintenance of the FLRAA weapon system.The Senior Technical Writer Analyst will develop military hardware and software technical documentation in accordance with Interactive Authoring and Display Systems (IADS) compliant Interactive Electronic Manuals (IETM) and US Army publications MIL-STDs relating to ACAT I weapon systems. The candidate in this role will function within the project office’s Logistics Directorate and will work with both contractors, government civilians and system operators. The candidate must be a self-starter and comfortable in a fast-paced working environment.Your day-to-day work will include:- Document Configuration Management for creating, developing new and changing existing Army Operator, Maintainer and Sustainment level Technical Publications.
- Analyze Engineering Drawings, Parts List, and wiring diagrams for the implementation of Engineer Change Proposals (ECP), 2028s, and Publication Change Requests (PCR).
- Attend Validations, Verifications and Logistics Demonstrations to perform onsite, real time XML changes to the IETMs in the field.
- Assist in managing the XML for the weapon system documentation to include but not limited to: IETMs, Electronic Technical Manuals (ETM), Software User Manual (SUM), Software Administrative Manual (SAM).
- Adhere to stylesheet and DTD rules.
- Ensure IETM XML is error free using business rules and source verifier.
- The ability to prepare a publication for authentication process for upload into the LDAC and ADP electronic library systems.
- Familiar with Repair Parts and Special Tools List (RPSTL) data to implement into the IETM.
- Assist in creating aviation related technical documents used by operators and system maintainers.
- Requirements include creating technical publications and change packages from vendor source data, creating graphics and wiring diagrams, and verifying and validating developed procedures.
- Use photographs, drawings, diagrams, animation, and charts to increase the understanding of the intended audience.
- Work with technical staff to make products easier to use, and thus, requiring fewer instructions.
- Standardize content across all platforms and media.
- Gather usability feedback from customers, designers, and all stakeholders.
- Perform QA (Quality Assurance) review of documents written by peers.
- Ensure all documentation is stored in document repository under version control.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication and customer service skills.
- Participate in applicable workgroups and organizational meetings.
- Assists in creating programmatic and source selection documentation.
- Assists in reviewing and creating Contract Requirement Packages.
- Assist in the writing of Request for Information (RFI’s).
- Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) years or more of hands-on relevant experience in technical writing.
- Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of MIL-STD 40051, MIL-HNBK-1222, MIL-STD-38784.
- Must have a working knowledge of the DoD Acquisition system.
- Must have strong collaboration skills.
- Must be able to telework effectively within the Redstone Arsenal, Alabama area.
- SECRET clearance.
- Proficient in multiple desktop publishers and word processors.
- Capable of converting from one format to another.
- Keep detailed records of work in a database or spreadsheet. Experience with Arbortext or similar authoring software for publications.
- Experience digitizing technical manuals from a different standard.
- Knowledge and understanding of MIL-STD-2361.
- Experience working with the XSLT language for transforming XML documents into other formats such as HTML.
