The General Manager oversees all daily operations, including staff management, production schedules, equipment maintenance, and project execution. This key leadership and technical role is responsible for designing, planning, supervising, and ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency across all projects and engineering activities. The GM optimizes workflow, manages budgets, enforces safety and quality standards, ensures technical competency, and leads continuous improvement initiatives to achieve company goals.
Qualifications
Leadership and Communication: Ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain effective relationships
Experience and Technical Expertise: Significant experience in machine and welding operations, with a proven track record in leadership or supervisory roles. Strong knowledge of both manual and CNC machining, blueprint reading, and precision measurement equipment.
Minimum 5 years in a supervisory or management position
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in machining and welding operations
High school diploma or equivalent (higher education or equivalent experience accepted)
Valid driver’s license with an insurable driving record
Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Sage/QuickBooks
Strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills
Advanced understanding of HAZMAT, SDS, and incident investigations
Demonstrated knowledge of:
o Oil field, drilling, and heavy equipment operation
o Mechanical assembly/disassembly application
o Equipment design, fabrication, and installation practices
Problem-solving: Excellent analytical and organizational skills, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions.
Compliance: Familiarity with safety standards like OSHA and quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100. Commitment to safety-first decision-making
Key Responsibilities
Support company vision and mission across all activities
Production oversight: Schedule production work, manage workflow, and ensure production requirements are met.
Lead, plan, and oversee all project and engineering operations
Provide leadership at facilities and job sites during project planning and execution
Manage project scopes including design, cost estimation, quoting, RFPs, and bid evaluations
Quality and safety: Enforce adherence to safety and quality standards and ensure compliance with regulations. Ensure high-quality standards, technical competency, and inspection compliance
Staff management: Supervise and mentor machinists and welders, evaluate key performance indicators (KPIs), schedule shifts, and build a positive team environment.
Establish and communicate performance expectations with staff
Conduct coaching, mentoring, and safety briefings for direct reports
Maintain punctuality, attendance, and professionalism
Equipment and facility: Oversee maintenance schedules, ensure equipment is running efficiently, and manage inventory of tools and resources.
Process improvement: Identify bottlenecks, implement process improvements, and lead root cause analysis for problems.
Budget and administration: Manage the shop's budget, report on performance, and handle administrative tasks.
