OverviewThe Computing & IT Cybersecurity group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is looking for a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to lead our efforts in cybersecurity workforce education, curriculum development, and exercise support. As a senior cyber security subject matter expert, you will drive our external efforts supporting key sponsors such as the Department of Energy (DOE) to train and develop cyber defenders across the department. You will also influence and contribute to internal programs and curriculum to help laboratory leadership and staff maintain awareness and practice behaviors that keep PNNL safe from cyber adversaries. The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer will be a key influencer across the DOE enterprise, setting the technical vision and leading efforts to train and maintain the readiness of cyber defenders as well as influence how DOE trains and develops the workforce to be cyber savvy and safe – with specific consideration of new technologies and adversarial approaches.ResponsibilitiesRecognized for unique knowledge as a technical expert in at least one cyber security domain, with the ability to connect multiple domains
Sought after externally and within PNNL for technical leadership to set technical direction on projects, programs, and initiatives
Able to leverage a wide range of generalized knowledge and domain expertise to solve a wide range of problems, working closely with other technical experts to support innovation and digital transformation
Conceives, develops, and implements technical approaches and/or plans for new and significant project opportunities
Principal investigator/Lead or co-PI on multiple or significantly complex, and/or high-risk projects or tasks and/or involving multiple tasks, capabilities, and organizations
Develops, and realizes new significant project opportunities, leading the development of technical sections of large proposals or project plans
Leads technical decision making at the project level and identifies new technologies or solutions to gaps in the laboratory or sponsor capabilities
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR-
PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications:Experience leading large-scale cyber defense exercise and training programs that are enterprise or agency wide in scope and impact
Demonstrated experience driving continuous improvement in cybersecurity education and workforce development that is threat and intelligence informed
Understanding of the relevant key risk indicators and other metrics and measurements used to inform approaches to cyber awareness training
Ability to understand technological trends and their impact on cyber risk coupled with the ability to translate this information to innovative approaches to cybersecurity education, training, and exercises
Experience establishing and managing cyber training plans on an individual and group-basis as well as coordinating large-scale group training events
