Description: Job Title: Materials Failure Analysis Engineer Job Location: Tempe, AZ Job Code: CS20232607-103998 Job Schedule: 9/80 Job Description: The primary function of this position is to apply failure analysis expertise and project management skills to provide timely and excellent support for every assigned FA submission. Tasks to include set up a complete FA plan for every assigned job, which includes reviewing background information, FA hardware/software readiness, timeline estimation, update and reporting FA finding to internal and external customers. Customer’s / area’s product ownership and representative of Analysis Engineering team. Cross department collaboration opportunities by attending customer meetings, pre-alignment meetings, yield meeting & etc. Also collaborate with multiple groups within and outside the department to deliver timely results, root cause finding and drive corrective actions.
Provide failure analysis of defective items provided by various customers (both internal and external customers)
Provide reporting of defect, root cause analysis and corrective preventative action recommendations
Provide team oversite on the implementation plans for corrective and preventative actions
Charter and lead projects with Engineering Team to improve process capability, reduce cycle time and/or labor cost, as assigned
Collect and maintain database for particle reduction efforts. Establish root cause for failed items, create and implement corrective actions. Track results of corrective actions.
Estimate, negotiate, monitor, and report process development and qualification schedule
Create various types of documentation (for use in production) using a variety of tools, including engineering and production review and release. Familiarity with Team Center is a plus.
Required ability to professionally and effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
Written - use of multimedia tools for briefings, ability to write procedures and reports.
Verbal - ability to provide briefings in small to medium size groups of technicians, engineers and management
Conduct research and development activities concerned with the improvement of various materials processes, typically around vacuum deposition of films.
Lead and support the design and implementation of novel and improved materials handling and deposition processes.
Enhance engineering team understanding of methodology through team collaboration and expertise sharing. Cross train engineering team to a 3x3 matrix of proficiency.
Drive reduced process variation supporting proper documentation and publicized statistical process control.
Oversee special projects, purchase required materials, assemble and verify operation, and coordinate validation testing in production environment.
Manage and facilitate work flow through lab, assigning priorities to jobs.
Discuss appropriate characterization techniques with engineering – help them to make proper decisions about the type of analysis needed, work with staff to choose appropriate characterization parameters.
Operation and maintenance for 13 metrology tools, collecting, organizing and reporting data
Create and test excel macros to streamline data output and collection from Quality Tracking System software, write code for Microsoft Access database, write code to access SQL database with output to Excel
Perform process audits to ensure compliance to procedures and deviations causing product failures
Photography/Videography for process documentation
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
B.S. in Chemistry, Physics, or Materials Science Engineering, or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands on experience with metrology/characterization tools
In-depth knowledge and application of physics, engineering principles, and concepts associated with various vacuum deposition techniques.
Experience in process development of ALD, Sputtering, E-Beam Evaporation, MBE and other vacuum deposition techniques desired.
In-depth knowledge of semiconductor and thin-film metrology techniques for vacuum deposition process development and control highly preferred, including: Ellipsometry, EDX, SIMS, Photoluminescence.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Green Belt certification desired
