What Does a Guide Do?
In your first season, you will provide narrated ecology tours of the Sonoran Desert in an open-air Jeep, often alongside more experienced guides during larger events involving multiple vehicles. As you gain experience, you may advance to leading presentations on desert wildlife and independently guiding private tours.
Is This a Good Fit for Me?
If you are familiar with the desert, have a passion for nature, enjoy being outdoors, have the physical ability to lead gentle hikes, love learning and sharing fascinating information with others, can drive a stick-shift, don’t rely on this job as your primary income, and have a flexible schedule—then this might be the perfect opportunity for you!
When Do Guides Work?
Trail Dust operates 365 days a year. As a guide, you will generally be expected to be available during the "season," which runs from September through May. You can choose whether to work during the summer months. Tours are assigned based on seniority, a fair rotation among guides, and the number of tours booked. All guide positions are part-time.
Documentation Requirements
You will need to provide the following documents on or before your first day of training:
A valid Driver's License and approval for Trail Dust to obtain a DMV printout of your driving record. Employment is contingent upon the approval of your driving qualifications by our insurance company.
Proof of Legal Authority to work in the United States (e.g., Social Security card or passport).
