Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a

Sr Applications Administration Specialist. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

  • Manages and develops the suite of monitoring tools that the SRE utilizes including Riverbed SteelCentral, Aternity, SolarWinds, Ansible, Grafana, and Splunk
  • Troubleshooting performance and availability of enterprise applications and underlying infrastructure
  • Create metrics to measure performance of implemented solutions
  • Create monitors and notifications for critical applications
  • Work with other departments to identify where we can help improve reliability and automate processes
  • Develop automation workflows that will perform routine tasks as well as provide self-healing for services
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies so that we are prepared to support and/or implement them
  • Using the vast amount of data that is collected from our tools, perform trend analysis on the data to be more proactive in our operations
  • Lead, plan, and execute projects, small initiatives, and/or cross-functional teams
  • Provide mentorship for our tools and process to other members of the team as well as other members outside of the team
  • Participate in the on-call rotation, roughly once every 6-8 weeks.
  • Take part in our SSRT and SRTs (tiger-team like calls) when required, providing technical expertise and guidance
  • Provide guidance in architecture discussions, ensuring the product(s) are scoped, scaled, monitored, and deployed properly.
  • Assist in the migration of applications to the cloud and that they are reliable once they are there.
  • Performs other duties as directed
  • Some business travel required

SKILLS:

  • Evidence of ability to act independently and on teams on complex tasks and wide-ranging initiatives using a broad exposure and professional understanding of the SRE concepts
  • Understanding or use of Software as a Service, across multiple platforms
  • Exhibits advanced knowledge of many of the following: operating systems, network devices, storage arrays, virtualization, identity and access management, AWS, Azure, scripting, software development, databases, cyber security, VDI, and monitoring tools
  • Prior work experience showing broad expertise or unique knowledge working as a Site Reliability Engineer or equivalent
  • Experience working with the Software Development Lifecycle and developing custom solutions to problems
  • Excellent track record showing ability to develop relationships and formal and informal networks to influence, coordinate, and communicate
  • Advanced knowledge of troubleshooting complex problems. Specifically, how to find the root cause of performance issue across a myriad of interdependent components.
  • Has ability to analyze complex situations, alternatives, designs, architectures, risks, data, and systems
  • Excellent organizational skills including leading initiatives and modest projects, the faculty to handle multiple-tasks and deliverables simultaneously, a track record of exercising independent judgment appropriately, and the ability to quickly understand and execute complex assignments when working on high profile outcomes with inherent risk
  • Solid oral/written communication, and inter-personal skills including the ability to: anticipate, influence & adapt to a wide range of audiences, cultivate relationships, and leverage organizational understanding to facilitate decision making and buy-in
  • A history that illustrates flexibility and adaptability to changing business needs and shows the ability to recognize need for change
  • Excellent track record of being capable of working with significant uncertainty, resistance, barriers, issues and challenges, converting uncertainty into quantifiable impact, risk and mitigating actions

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Tools: Wireshark, GitLab, JIRA, Grafana, Solarwinds, Splunk, SteelCentral, Powershell, Ansible, vCenter, SQL Management Studio,
  • Programming Languages. Some knowledge in one or more of the following: Python, Javascript, C, C#, R, Go
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • Certificates related to the SRE skillsets

NOTE: This role can be suppoprted remotely.

Note: The compensation information listed is a good faith estimate for this position only and is provided pursuant to the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act and Equal Pay Transparency Rules. It is estimated based on what a successful Colorado applicant might be paid. It assumes that the successful candidate will be in Colorado or perform the position from Colorado. Similar positions located outside of Colorado will not necessarily receive the same compensation.

If performed in Colorado, this position has a salary range of USD $65,000.00/Yr. - USD $80,000.00/Yr.
