Job Description

Sr. Cloud Security Engineer provides cyber security advisory services to DevOps teams at SVB, and supports native cloud application development initiatives by recognizing security risks and implementing security controls within public and private cloud environments, in adherence to SVB security policies and standards. The Sr. Engineer will be assigned to large, enterprise and mission critical projects and implement security strategy and architecture, in order to protect SVB assets, handle risk, and maintain compliance.

Essential Functions
  • Implement and test code for automated security controls and alerts using Hashicorp Terraform, Sentinel, Python and Gitlab; maintain clean code and organized pipelines and repos
  • Research, updates, and maintains security requirements for SVB Cloud Security Standard and AWS Service Hardening Standards, and repeatable security architectural patterns
  • Identifies and prioritizes security activities in large complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Consults with IT and DevOps teams on security best practices and requirements for Cloud Security, participating in Agile ceremonies and planning meetings
  • Attends Architecture Review Board meetings to advise cloud native application development projects

Requirements

• Deep understanding of security architectures, defense in depth, cloud and on-prem security models and concepts

• Proficient in designing and deploying AWS IaaS security services and solutions

• Familiarity with United States laws and regulations impacting cyber security and personal data privacy, including GLBA, SOX, and the FFIEC Information Security requirements

• Working knowledge of security frameworks and control references such as NIST CSF, CIS 20, COBIT, PCI DSS, OWASP, ISO 27000 family and NIST SP 800 series

• Familiar with various security architectures and methodologies (Defense in Depth, Segmentation, Least Privilege, Zero-Trust, Kill-Chain, etc.)

• Experience and working knowledge of network architecture, subnetting, and TCP/IP protocols, and OSI model layers and protocols at each model layer

• Python proficiency required

• Solid understanding of Hashicorp Terraform and Sentinel code

• Experience running AWS environments is a plus

• Past IT Operations experience is a plus; server management, network engineering, or ITIL process management and execution (asset, change, problem, issue management)

• Leadership qualities, desire to influence horizontally and vertically, and mentor team members

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

• Ability to demonstrate empathy while seeking common interests; effective problem and conflict resolution skills
