About the Role: The Sr. Director of Data Engineering will play a key role in defining the strategy for our data engineering team in managing, transforming and making data available to all stakeholder groups throughout SVB and owning the data platform from end-to-end including the data lake, data warehouse and advanced analytics platforms. The right candidate will have strong data infrastructure and data architecture skills, a proven track record of leading and scaling data teams, strong operational skills to drive efficiency and speed, expertise building repeatable data engineering processes, strong project management skills, and a vision for how to deliver data products. We are on a journey to drive a data driven culture across the organization. This role is pivotal in accelerating our journey by leading the data engineering team in building data solutions, platforms and applications that power critical business decisions throughoutthe organization. You will build and lead an engineering practice, develop data solutions that the business teams can use with a high level of confidence and trust to drive their day-to-day decisions and achieve the business outcomes. Once Here You Will: - Manage the ongoing development of a data platform in Amazon Web services to ingest new data sources and update the data model as necessitated by business needs. - Lead the data engineering team to build high quality, performant solutions that ensure stakeholder groups have access to the data they need to drive customer and business outcomes - Develop the data lake, data warehouse, and ETL strategy to provide consistent, clean, and integrated data for the enterprise. - Identify risks and issues and put in place mechanisms to address those and drive continuous improvement and operational excellence - Build and own the automation and monitoring frameworks that showcase reliable, accurate, easy-to-understand metrics and operational KPIs to stakeholders for data pipeline quality and performance. - Collaborate with the data analysts, data architect, and business users to design the data models for high-performance analytics while ensuring data accuracy and completeness. - Collaborate with the office of the CISO, CDO, CTO and others to implement policies and procedures for the security, privacy, quality, integrity, and availability of the enterprise data platform. - Drive a product mindset across multiple verticals and put in place the right organizational structure to support the strategy and ensure teams can deliver predictably, at pace and to high quality - Provide thought leadership on Cloud and Agile transformations for the data engineering team and the entire Organization. - Attract and mentor a highly performant team in an exciting, inclusive and collaborative environment What You'll Bring: IDEAL EXPERIENCE - 5+ years of experience leading data engineering teams - 10+ years of Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing experience - Proven experience hiring and mentoring high-caliber, data-focused engineers with diverse technical strengths and backgrounds. - Strong business acumen with an understanding of business drivers and of how to drive value using data across the organization - Experience with public cloud-based data platforms and managed services, Data Lake infrastructure, Data Warehousing (e.g. Redshift), analytics tools, data visualization (such as Tableau, Looker) and machine learning capabilities (such as Sagemaker, DataRobot) - Expert knowledge of data modeling techniques and high-volume ETL/ELT design. - Experience with Lambda Architecture or other Big Data architectural standard methodologies - Prior experience working with Analytics and Data Science teams - Experience in SQL or similar languages and development experience in at least one scripting language (Python etc.). - Understanding of data governance practices such as metadata management, data lineage, and data glossaries a huge plus. -
