Job Description Senior Principal Cloud Innovation Engineer

About the Role:

We are looking for a very experienced hands-on engineer to lead the design and development of a new private capital marketplace that aims to fuel the innovation economy by driving investments into both venture funds and companies. As a tech lead, you will collaborate with business and product leaders across SVB Capital, Commercial Bank, and Private Bank & Wealth Management to ideate, design, and prototype solutions, then lead a distributed development team to deliver the production applications for both our internal and external customers, and then do it all over again with new innovations.

You should have the necessary skills and experience to provide technical guidance and identify optimal technology solutions that achieve the desired business needs while staying compliant with SVB's standards. You will be responsible for all aspects of software development including technical research, requirements gathering, architecture and solution design, product development/implementation, system integration, testing, deployment and ongoing enhancements. You will need to develop both a short- and long-term technology strategy and roadmap that optimizes existing resources while anticipating and helping secure budget for future needs to maintain a rapid rate of execution. As the primary technical point of contact, you will be expected to navigate varying levels of uncertainty and have excellent communication skills with other IT leaders, individual contributors, and business stakeholders. You will partner closely with Product Managers, UX Researchers/Designers, Developers and other functional partners to build, implement and deploy solutions.

Once Here You Will:
  • Gain and maintain working knowledge across multiple technology domains and act as a trusted subject matter expert to senior technology and business stakeholders
  • Lead development teams through all phases of the product development lifecycle, including solution design, enterprise architecture, onboarding, development, testing, deployment and maintenance
  • Guide the selection of technology solutions and clearly articulate the pros and cons of different approaches by analyzing technical feasibility, effort estimation, and budget/resource requirements
  • Leverage understanding of existing code base and industry best practices to define and lead architecture design discussions
  • Create technical architecture documentation and presentations to obtain approval from enterprise architecture, data governance, security, privacy and other internal stakeholders
  • Present project overviews and updates to senior leaders across technology, product and sales
  • Implement and continuously improve the flexibility, functionality and usability of application and system components
  • Help Product Managers and Scrum Masters convert business requirements into technical requirements and lead sprint planning, scrum and sprint kickoffs
  • Establish standards and techniques to define, measure and optimize project KPIs that support SVB's corporate OKRs
  • Support QA and user acceptance testing and help team with creation of test cases, scenarios and acceptance criteria
  • Collaborate and contribute to the product and architectural roadmaps that align with business objectives and priorities
  • Create new technology platforms, implementation and integration patterns, or tools to support flexible and scalable business systems while maintaining focus on meeting near term productivity and product goals
  • Help onboard and mentor junior staff members in the best practices for architecture design, application development and code quality
  • Improve SVB's overall technical capabilities by creating patterns, standards, and tools for refactoring or tech debt remediation that help attract and develop high-quality technical resources

What you'll bring:
  • 8+ years of experience leading complex technology projects that drive meaningful business outcomes
  • 3+ years currently building cloud-first technology initiatives, preferably in the financial services industry
    • AWS - Lambda, step functions, Fargate, Kinesis
    • Node, Typescript, Java SpringBoot
    • IaC, Gitlab, Terraform, CI/CD
    • High Availability - AZs, Autoscaling, Multi-Region, Routing, Load balancing
    • NoSQL, Dynamo, Redis
    • KMS, IAM, certificates, tokens
    • Hybrid cloud
    • Observability - Logging, Monitoring, Alerting, Auditing, Dashboard, Search
  • Excel at balancing strategic planning and tactical execution, with a proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously under tight timeframes
  • Ability to inspire and influence senior technology and business stakeholders
  • Experience managing distributed agile development teams
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to negotiate priorities across organizations at all levels
  • Knowledge of venture capital, private equity, wealth management and/or general banking industry fundamentals preferred
