Dignity Health Medical Group (DHMG) employs approximately 200 providers and 500 support staff that cover a wide variety of specialties. The medical group has had tremendous success over the past few years and now provides more than 73 subspecialty services. Assists with obtaining vital signs, documents chief complaint, obtains patient history, and provides assistance to physicians, residents and/or licensed nursing personnel. Alerts physician of problems/concerns/abnormalities. Surgical Procedure Coordinator responsibilities include coordinating the schedules of physicians, operating rooms, anesthesiologists, equipment, lab work, and any other required items/staff in accordance with a physician's recommendation for patient care.

Medical Assistant Daily Operations and Procedures:

Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol.

Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested.

Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies.

Performs follow-up actions as directed.

Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols.Completes hospital forms per protocol.

Monitors and records patient vital signs, weight, positioning, ADL's I&O activity and blood glucose readings per RN instructions, hospital protocols, and standards of care.

Initiates orders according to SJHMC time performance standards-STAT-Within 5 minutes, Discharge/Transfer- within 10 minutes, Routine- within 30 minutes.

Conducts front desk duties as needed (check in, registrations, scheduling appointments). Complete full patient registration in IDX when registering new patients.

Ensure all patient information is updated and current when following up/interacting with patients. Verify insurance eligibility and/or benefits.

Surgery Procedure Coordinator Daily Operations and Procedures:

Coordinate operating rooms, equipment, anesthesia, pre-op labs and imaging, authorizations, and physician schedule for surgeries.

Act as a liaison between the patient, provider/referring physician, primary care physician, and other parties involved in the surgery/procedure to include distribution of pre and post-operative information to the patient.

Gather and record financial and insurance information and ensure authorizations are obtained prior to the procedure/surgery.

Uses IDX system according to policy and procedure, including patient registration, scheduling appointments, template oversight (if applicable), printing forms and schedules, posting payments and charge reconciliation, and reporting any issues with system. Effectively utilizes IDX downtime procedures as needed.
