Responsibilities
As a scrub technician first assistant: The use of a STFA in the role of a first assistant in place of another physician will be left to the discretion of the surgeon. When STFA is not first assisting he/she will work as needed in a Scrub Tech role. As a Lead: Provides coordination for the efficient delivery of care in the assigned area of surgical specialty. Primary functions involve energetically and dynamically supporting the staff and physicians in acquiring the necessary equipment and training to deliver evidence based surgical interventions
Qualifications
Minimum
High School Diploma or GED
Three years of scrub tech experience
Successful completion of an approved First Assistant program with a curriculum that includes didactic and clinical training designed for first assisting the surgeon
Knowledge of surgical anatomy physiology and operative techniques relative to procedures where the first assistant assists
Six months recent first assistant on-the-job experience and/or a letter of recommendation from surgeons for whom they performed as a first assistant
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certificate (AHA BLS)
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing providing excellent customer service
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities/tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer literacy and proficiency
Preferred
Current Scrub Tech First Assist (STFA) certificate preferred
Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred; Cerner strongly preferred
Three years of current operating room experience in specialty
