Position: Automation & Robotics Engineer

Duration: 7 Months

Location: Springdale, AR

Job Description:
  • The Automation organization is a growing organization at client's that is responsible for the development and validation of innovative robotics and automation technologies and solutions that improve team member safety, optimize labour and yield, ensure food safety, and provide a framework for sustainable profitability.
  • As Staff Automation and Robotics engineer, you will utilize your experience and knowledge of the practical application of engineering, science and technology focusing on automation projects of large-scale capital/high-volume products within the Automation organization.
  • You will report directly to the Director of Automation R&D with new product development portfolio. You will primarily act as SME (Mechanical/EE/Controls/Robotics), reviewer, approver, and mentor for Lead/Senior engineering teams from various functions.
  • You will study Tyson operations and work with analysts and process experts to come up with innovative robotics and automation solutions that can be standardized and scaled within Tyson.
  • This can involve sourcing solutions from established vendors, co-developing solutions with our strategic vendors, collaborating with start-up companies, and/or doing R&D work to create solutions that are unique to Tyson needs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop automation solutions that can be demonstrated and tested to drive efficiency, worker safety and financial returns leveraging technologies such as Robotics, computer vision, and other industrial automation and software technologies.
  • Work with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software engineers to develop the details of the automation solution that you are creating.
  • The goal is for these solutions to become part of the Tyson automation product line that can be scaled and deployed across the Tyson enterprise.
  • Approver for Design Reviews for component selection, architecture, and determining technical readiness level of solutions.
  • Ensure project initiatives and processes are in conformance with the organization's established policies and objectives while meeting all code and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish and maintain standards, templates, checklists, and relevant technical information for all product development processes related to automation solutions.
  • Assess the financial and efficiency impacts of these opportunities and design solutions in collaboration with key stakeholders in operations and technology teams.
  • Design, validate, and execute appropriate test methods to address system design and performance issues.
  • Facilitate complex problem-solving skills, enhance collaboration across functional groups, and support development efforts for current manufacturing hardware and new system development.
  • Partner with industry leading technology companies and emerging technology start-ups to source and apply the new technologies
  • Map out process flowcharts for current and new processes.
  • Present new ideas and status updates to senior leadership.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree or education
  • 7 to 10 years of direct related experience in application of robotics and automation in manufacturing / production environments OR 7 to 10 years of direct experience in engineering and development of robotics and automation solutions
  • A passion for modern technology, a true desire to leverage the most advanced technologies available to improve worker safety, operational efficiency, and financial impacts
  • Understanding and knowledge of food production processes and solutions is desired
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher is desired
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and demonstration skills with the ability to interface directly with executive level leadership
  • Ability to act as a single threaded leader on complex projects while still contributing to concurrent running projects, focusing on multiple value streams and technology types.
  • This position may require up to 15% of travel.

Special Skills:
  • Expertise in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FEA simulation, GD&T, and design for excellence concepts (e.g., DFM, DFA, DFT, Client).
  • PDM/PLM experience. Solid works PDM preferred.
  • Be able to perform required analysis to ensure a successful design (stress, strain, thermal, tolerance, cost, and mass optimization, etc.).
  • Implement design and testing practices that are UL, CE, ISO, and FDA compliant
  • Strong understanding of fabrication methods including machining, sheet metal, rapid prototyping, and injection moulding. Sand casting and die casting experience a bonus.
  • Working knowledge of Risk management expertise (dFMEA, pFMEA, Control Plans)
  • Experience with motor sizing, motion profiling/analysis, and payload analysis.
