Description We are offering a long term contract employment opportunity for an Accounting Assistant in the non-profit industry, based in Indio, California. As an Accounting Assistant, you will play a crucial role in managing financial records and bookkeeping tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our organization's financial functions.Responsibilities: Efficiently handle accounts payable tasks, including the processing of invoices and ensuring timely payments to vendors. Verify the accuracy of bills and expense reports in adherence to organizational policies. Assist in the preparation and processing of check runs and electronic payments on a weekly basis. Handle accounts receivable tasks which include generating and dispatching invoices to donors, grantors, or other funding sources. Record contributions and reconcile donation records while following up on outstanding payments and resolving discrepancies. Assist with the preparation of check requests, obtaining necessary approvals, and issuing checks for payment. Regularly reconcile bank statements to ensure accurate reporting. Generate and audit invoices for accuracy, correct coding, and proper format in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure invoicing and payments align with project budgets and funding sources. Assist in maintaining records for audits, grant reporting, and compliance with nonprofit guidelines. Offer support in the preparation for external and internal audits. Maintain digital and physical files of accounting records in an organized manner. Provide general support for the finance team as needed. Requirements Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an accounting role. Proficiency in accounting software systems is a must. Demonstrated ability to handle various accounting functions. Experience with Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) is necessary. Prior auditing experience is a significant advantage. Must be adept at performing bank reconciliations. Proficiency in QuickBooks is highly preferred. The candidate should be from a non-profit background. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must have a keen eye for detail and a commitment to accuracy. A degree in Accounting or a related field is required.
