Job Description

Exelixis is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to supervise many of the processes surrounding the monthly general ledger close. The ideal candidate will maintain or oversee the control of various accounts and records in such areas as disbursements, expenses, and income. This individual should be detail-oriented, highly ethical team player with a positive attitude, showing a willingness to learn and take on challenges in a fast-paced environment. This position will play an active role in the financial close process and review of month-end journal entries which includes allocations, cash, prepaids, and SG&A expense accruals.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Actively participate in the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities which include review of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement analysis. Collaborate with FP&A and accounting management to produce financial data analytics such as key financial metrics and actual spend against budget. Review balance sheet and income statement accounts reconciled by the Senior Accountants which include cash, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, R&D and SG&A expenses. Research and resolve accounting issues. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and operational innovation and regularly interact with business owners and senior level management on accounting. Support scaling our processes through automation by working on system implementations and enhancements. Collaborate with external auditors during the quarterly review, interim and year-end audit. Ensure SOX compliance with internal control policies. Participate in other projects as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide direction to other individuals.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and five years of related experience; or Master’s degree in related discipline and three years of related experience; or, Equivalent combination of education and experience. CPA or CPA candidate preferred.

Experience: Experience in Auditing/Accounting. Experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries preferred.

Knowledge/Skills: Strong attention to details and organization skills. Strong knowledge of US GAAP. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated success in problem-solving. Ability to work independently and as a team. Comfort and experience in a fast-paced environment. Results and goal-oriented mindset with an opportunistic eye towards driving continuous improvements. Systems oriented, experience with SAP ERP system preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, advanced skills preferred.WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: primarily working indoors, performing clerical work
