Maxar is seeking a Materials and Process (M&P) Engineer to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. As part of the Product Assurance group, we are responsible for the selection and qualification of all parts and materials for Maxar's LEO, GEO and special purpose Spacecrafts. Our group also writes the high-level space related process requirements for Maxar. As a diverse group of engineers, the role will involve many different aspects associated with materials engineering.In this role, you will be a member of the Parts, Materials and Processes team. The team is responsible for all EEE parts, all materials and process used to build a variety of space vehicles. This job opening is for a M&P generalist to support the day-to-day manufacturing requirements of sophisticated space satellites. Applicant shall have good working knowledge of space related electrical and mechanical assembly techniques. Experience working with NASA and industry specifications in space applications is highly desirable. Responsibilities will include reviewing and approving various types of materials, manufacturing processes and suppliers, evaluating and qualifying new materials and processes for space use, and investigating and resolving materials or process related issues and failures involving spaceflight hardware. Some travel to foreign and domestic supplier facilities may be required. To be successful in this position, you must be able to work well with others, communication effectively and be able to fully document the issues and resolution.Responsibilities:- Defining and implementing requirements in some of the following areas:
- Electronic Assembly
- Mechanical Assembly
- Understanding and specifying cleanroom requirements
- Contamination Control
- Electrostatic Discharge Control
- Write and review materials procurement documents
- Define and implement materials testing
- Perform M&P related problem resolution and root cause analysis Investigate and implement process improvement on assemblies used in space environments
- Work within an awesome team of engineers and be flexible to take on tasks outside of your comfort zone
- Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering or other materials related field
- 5 or more years work experience in the M&P field (space related is desirable)
- Experience in aerospace materials selection, testing and processing such as adhesive bonding, soldering, forging, plating, surface finishing and cleaning
- Knowledge of industry practices and standards including ASTM, SAE, MIL and NASA standards
- Experience with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn how to use custom database programs
- Team player - ability to work across multiple functional organizations to develop and implement solutions
- Hands on person - capable of understanding the issues and properties of materials and use sound engineer practices to find appropriate solutions to the materials issues.
- Direct experience with NASA policies and procedures and government regulations across a range of applications - previous experience working on materials and process engineering issues associated with space missions, generation of Materials and Processes Control Plans, review and/or generation of MIULS, MUAs, inspection reports, failure reports and other materials and process related functions.
