Hall Hieatt Connely & Bowen LLP (HHC&B) is seeking a full-time associate attorney. HHC&B’s legal team currently consists of four partners, two associates, three paralegals, and three legal assistants. The successful candidate will join our dedicated team of legal professionals, work in a collaborative and collegial environment, and obtain significant hands-on litigation experience in both state and federal courts.

About HHC&B:

HHC&B is a civil litigation defense firm located in downtown San Luis Obispo. The firm opened its doors over 30 years ago, and it is respected as having some of the preeminent trial attorneys in the area. The firm predominantly handles medical malpractice defense and public entity defense matters, but it also handles a wide range of insurance defense matters as well as coverage opinions, business consulting, and appellate practice.

Essential Functions:

Manage and conduct all phases of litigation from inception to trial, including client consultations, case analysis and strategy, legal research, discovery, motion practice, mediations, and court appearances

Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and ethics

Desired Skills:

Required -

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school or CA-accredited law school

Active member in good standing of the California State Bar (candidates who are awaiting Bar results may still apply)

Preferred but not required -

Minimum of three (3) years of litigation experience, such as court appearances, preparing discovery and dispositive motions, and attending depositions

Experience and/or strong interest in defending medical malpractice and/or public entity matters

Other skills -

Excellent organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple cases, meet deadlines, and perform tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail

Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting court documents and interacting with others, with the ability to craft clear, understandable, concise, and persuasive court documents

Proficiency in legal research tools and software in the performance of professional legal work

Salary and Benefits:

Starting annual salary range for attorneys with at least three (3) years of experience is $110,000 to $150,000 depending on experience, plus year-end bonus structure starting at 2000 annual billable hours
