Bodyshop Tech at the BMW Collision Center

The Body Shop Technician repairs and paints per Repair Order. He or she must follow all safety policies and procedures at all times, which includes properly using personal protective equipment when required.

Responsibilities

A. Techs are to fully teardown vehicle related to the accident to determine parts replacement, labor & all necessary R&I’s.

B. Tech to mark all damaged parts with yellow marker. Parts to be laid out and photographed by the Advisor to identify all parts that must be replaced. All damaged parts must be stored at the bottom of parts rack by tech. Additional parts must be in the Management System before they are ordered. The tech will identify the part to advisor, the advisor will add to the estimate and transfer to Repair Center in order for the Parts Manager to order the additional parts. If the vehicle is not torn down to Service Advisor’s satisfaction, tech will need to remover further parts in order to write a proper estimate.

C. Tech will place the windshield tag and clip list to the short end of the rack in order to identify which vehicle it belongs to. The clip list needs to be filled out listing any clips/rivets/retainers/nuts and bolts that are needed with sample taped to the paper. Parts rack is to be stored in tech’s designated area.

D. Service advisor and tech to go over damage(s) and repairs before any work is performed on vehicle to prevent any additional supplements.

E. Techs will be called by the Parts Manager whenever sheet metal parts are received to ensure that there is no damage on parts received.

F. Tech is to repair vehicles based on manufacturer specifications. No deviation should be done unless it gets approved by GM. Any questions pertaining to repair procedures should go to the Service Advisor for further assistance and if not available GM. Techs are to follow work orders provided to them for every RO, unless repair mythology changes in the process and approved by GM. Work not performed will be back flagged due to BAR compliance.

G. Tech needs to print out repair procedures for any major panel replacement. Off- brand vehicle repair procedures and measurements will be provided by GM when applicable.

H. Tech is to assure that all welds & body work is up to Collision Center standard before vehicle gets moved into paint department. Tech to use the Work Order as a checklist to

initial that each operation has been completed. Prior to re-assembly tech is to inspect vehicle to assure that there is no paint work imperfection before re-assembly. Any quality issues need to be brought up to GM to make a decision on the issue.

I. Prior to assembly sending vehicle to paint, tech must check that he has all parts to complete the re-assembly. When doing suspension work or any work requiring bolts to be torqued they be must marked to identify that has been torqued to manufacturer specifications. Assemble vehicle and QC work performed before moving vehicle to polish/QC dept. All lights are to be checked & functional before the car leaves the tech stall.

J. Parts not used in the repair of a vehicle need to be returned to the Parts Manager immediately after the vehicle is assembled in order for file to pre-close accurately for BAR compliancy.

K. When the vehicle is complete, the parts rack needs to be moved behind the parts department in its designated storage space. Every part needs to remain with its respective cart with the correct RO. Parts not belonging to the designated parts rack are NOT to be put on rack. Parts are to remain with their perspective rack.

L. Jigs must be checked in/out from the PM, used for the current job, and returned to the parts department as soon as work is completed.

M. All company equipment needs to be well taken care of. Any issues with company equipment notify the Manager.

N. Keep your area and shop clean & organized at all times.

O. Performs other duties as assigned.
