CLD Job Description - Scientist I The successful candidate will be responsible for establishment of a CLD platform for 23andMe, generation of clonal cell lines for cGMP manufacture, and lead CLD technology transfer activities to Contract Development and Manufacturing Organizations (CDMO) for clinical manufacturing. The candidate will lead all aspects of CLD including vector design and construction, clone screening, characterization of cell lines, and establishment of early upstream cell culture processes. Duties/Responsibilities
  • Establish a cell line development platform for 23andMe for antibody candidates for cGMP manufacturing
  • Perform and oversee all aspects of mammalian cell line development and early-stage cell culture development
  • Lead and oversee vector construction, transfection, stable selection, cloning, expansion, characterization, and cell banking of mammalian cell lines for clinical production
  • Perform laboratory experiments using a variety of CLD and cell culture technologies including single cell printing, cell imaging, and bench-scale bioreactors
  • Write operational procedures, process descriptions, and technical documents
  • Work with cross functional peers to execute on assignments under limited supervision
  • Analyze, organize, and communicate experimental results to colleagues and senior leadership
Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with transfection and maintenance of CHO cells lines
  • Extensive knowledge of screening and characterizing clonal cell lines for use in a cGMP manufacturing
  • Experience in CLD technologies including culture of CHO cells, single-cell cloning, clonality assessment, and clone screening
  • Experience in cell culture in shake flasks, media development, and benchtop-scale bioreactors
  • Prior experience working directly with CDMOs and 3rd party vendors is a plus
  • Knowledge of downstream processing steps and interpretation of analytical results strongly preferred
  • Experience with Octet/ELISA-based protein quantification is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
Education:Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioengineering or a related discipline with 3 - 6 years of postdoctoral experience or B.S./M.S. with 8+ years of industry experience in cell line development
