Position Summary:

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides enterprise class services to the staff, faculty, and students of UC Irvine. The Cloud Infrastructure team within OIT supports critical campus services that use cloud tools, resources, and services.

Under the supervision of the Cloud Infrastructure Manager in the Office of Information Technology department, the Cloud Operations Analyst is responsible for applying professional concepts and procedures to resolve incidents and requests of moderate scope, coordinating the escalation of issues and requests when appropriate, performing daily maintenance tasks for cloud services, maintaining thorough documentation of procedures and system configurations, communicating ticket and service status to customers, and completing additional work assigned by the Cloud Infrastructure manager. The position requires administration and operations experience within Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment. Candidates must have proficient time management skills to work in a dynamic operations environment with varying priorities and schedule demands. Excellent communications skills are required for collaboration with technical and non-technical individuals of the university.

Required:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of demonstrated experience in cloud services.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • General knowledge of several areas of IT.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how system management actions affect users and dependent/related functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer security tools, best practices, and policies.
  • Demonstrated skills applying security controls to computer software and hardware.
  • Experience with network technologies, especially DNS, VLANs, firewalls, and load balancers. Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals, and software.
  • Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
  • Basic knowledge of incident response procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing moderately complex scripts used to perform system maintenance and administration for cloud services, tools, automation, and orchestration.
  • Ability to write technical documentation in a clear and concise manner.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
  • Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. Knowledge of business processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the design, development and application of technology and systems to meet business needs.
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills.
  • Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Working knowledge of computer and cloud security best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
Preferred:
  • Demonstrated experience with database administration.
  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
  • Knowledge relating to the design and development of software.
  • Basic knowledge of secure software development.
  • Experience with ITIL or similar IT best practices frameworks.
  • Experience programming tasks using JavaScript, JSON, and Python.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, configuration management tools like Ansible or Chef, and code revision tools like Git or AWS Code Pipeline
