This is a Communications System Engineer position inside the Communication and Networking Architecture Subdivision (CNAS). As part of the Modeling and Simulation (M&S) team, you'll be working to solve the toughest problems in wireless communication today. From innovation of completely new technologies and concepts through re-application of existing standards in novel forums and environments, you'll be testing your M&S skills to their limits - M&S for Communication Systems, Systems Design, Signal Processing, Algorithms, and challenging environmental effects. These are not your average link budgets.

This role can be in a hybrid work model which offers partially remote with some onsite work required in El Segundo, California.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Provide technical advice on satellite communication systems and signal processing to internal and external customers
  • Independently perform analysis, simulation, laboratory activities or systems engineering involving
  • Physical and link-layer communication
  • Digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms
  • Sophisticated communication systems simulations
  • Space and terrestrial communication system architectures
  • Communications link performance analysis evaluation
  • Payload hardware design and evaluation
  • Mentor other engineers and university interns
  • Develop and implement innovative technical concepts

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related field
  • Minimum of 7-years of experience in the design, analysis, simulation or modeling of communication systems
  • A strong understanding of digital signal processing/communication systems theory, including modulation, coding, and synchronization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including delivering presentations and writing technical reports
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government - Top Secret security clearance with Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI).

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering, science, or mathematics, with advanced academic work in communication systems and signal processing
  • Strong systems engineering experience such as the development, flow-down and verification of requirements
  • Knowledge of GPS/GNSS systems and digital signal processing
  • Experience with prototype development and software-defined radios (SDRs)
  • Experience with modern software-development practices and tools. Demonstrated ability to design and implement communication and signal processing simulations in MATLAB, Python, or C
  • Experience with the space industry, including commercial space, Space Force, and the Intelligence Community
  • Experience with government acquisitions and source selection processes
  • An active Top-Secret clearance with SSBI.
