It is that passion combined with a strategic focus on ever changing global challenges that shapes our path forward.We are seeking a proven, highly experienced Aerospace Engineer to lead our Conceptual Design team as part of Lockheed Martin's Advanced Development Programs, a.k.a. the "Skunk Works".A successful candidate for this role will bring strong technical experience in early/conceptual aircraft design and the ability to provide effective leadership to the Palmdale Conceptual Design team. This leadership position for the Conceptual Design organization will report to the Conceptual Design Senior Manager as part of a multi-site team.The position requires an understanding of Conceptual Design and ADP project needs, anticipation of project requirements and a flexible style to change course mid-stream to support project goals. The selected candidate must have extensive experience conducting aircraft planform development, aircraft layouts, configuration development, and advanced surfacing, preferably with CATIA V5/V6. Additionally, experience with aircraft sizing, performance estimation, trade studies, sensitivities, and optimization using multi-disciplinary modeling and simulation analysis tools is required.What You Will Be Doing- Manage the Palmdale Conceptual Design team, including fulfillment of program staffing needs, foster development and career growth, supporting all HR/personnel needs, and training/mentoring.- Technical/Programmatic leadership of conceptual design and R&D projects/programs- Support capture of new business, especially within the Science and Technology community- Setting organizational and individual development goals with associated implementation plans- Ensuring aircraft system design integrity and solution validity- Creating an environment that attracts highly skilled and creative team members, allowing them to excel across a range of programs- Identification and development of potential leaders- Establish staffing needs, interview and hire outstanding new talent- Implement the annual HR business cycle for reviews, career development, knowledge continuity, and talent planning- Managing allocated New Business Funds and Overhead budgets- Collaborate closely with CD managers in our Fort Worth, TX and Marietta, GA sites- Work proactively with Ops Analysis, Engineering, IT, support organizations and other LM Business areasEffective communication skills are a necessity, and previous experience leading conceptual design efforts (both technical and programmatic) is desired. The candidate should have excellent presentation skills and be able to discuss technical matters appropriately with management, partners, and customer representatives.
