Job Description

Draft, negotiate and manage a variety of contracts supporting Exelixis’ commercial, general and administrative functions, including Information Technology, Digital Transformation, Procurement, Human Resources, Finance, Public Affairs, Investor Relations, Real Estate and Facilities, providing key support to advance Exelixis’ mission

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of contracts (which may include confidentiality agreements, consulting and service agreements, and various vendor services agreements). Provide daily legal support to various internal clients regarding contractual obligations and effectively address legal and business questions. Define risks and be able to communicate those risks to appropriate internal decision-makers for discussion and resolution. Maintain and track status for contracts and perform administrative tasks specific to contract management, such as creating files, updating files with ongoing correspondence, managing the contract execution process, and scanning and entering executed contracts into internal contract database. Handle miscellaneous legal tasks on an as needed basis under direction of senior attorneys.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No supervisory responsibilities

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Education: BS/BA degree in related discipline and five years of related experience. JD preferred and two years of related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Two to three years of in-house experience at a biotechnology, pharmaceutical or high-tech company, with a focus on contract drafting and negotiation and preference for IT contracting experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Thorough understanding of the contract management process, including tracking, negotiation, approval, and signature processes. Reliable and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Active listener and collaborative nature. Highly self-motivated, flexible, and proactive problem solver. Strong project management and organizational skills. Ability to prioritize; must be responsible and conscientious. On-going learner and proactive thinker dedicated to communications/process improvement. Dedication to quality and attuned ability to spot errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and ambiguity. Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of complex and variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
