Our project teams include specialists in the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of tele-data communications, audio/video, process control, building management and fire/safety installations.SUMMARYThe Associate must be well organized in support of multiple projects/assignments, be responsive to deadlines and readily accept direction from more senior project team members. The position requires the more or less continuous use of AutoCAD and MS Access and involves significant exposure to low voltage AC and DC circuits and circuit components, particularly controller I/O modules, switching power supplies, breakers, fuses and grounding components.The Control Systems Engineer 1 assists more senior engineers with design, development and troubleshooting of PLC 1 based control systems.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESUnder the direction of the project responsible engineer, the Control Systems Engineer 1 will have the following responsibilities:

Develop drawing and documentation packages including wiring diagrams, bills of materials, interconnect diagrams and device level

Produce instrument and valve datasheets in support of procurement

Test control panels and support client factory acceptance testing of control

Provide technical supervision of engineering

Within 3000 hours the Associate is expected to achieve proficiency in the design of control panels, become familiar with sensor technologies and characteristics, develop an awareness of material compatibility requirements for basic processes, understand the fundamentals of safety circuit and interlock design and have a working knowledge of the code requirements for installation of electrical equipment in areas where combustible gases and vapors may be present.PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

An undergraduate technical degree (e.g., ChE, ME, EE) from an accredited institution or

Demonstrated competence in one of the performance domains

Performance domains:

Control Panel Design: Panel layout and power distribution, enclosure selection, breaker/fuse selection, I/O selection, loop drawings, VFD selection/configuration, relational database maintenance, UL 508A compliance.

Control System Design: System architecture, device level LANs, controller selection, hazard analysis and mitigation, circuits for hazardous areas (XP, IS, NI), safety circuits and interlocks, overpressure relief device selection, specification development, test protocol development, RFI generation.

Instrumentation and Final Control Elements: Configuration of and application limitations for common pressure/level/temperature sensor technologies, analyzers, flow meters, toxic and combustible gas detectors. Control valve sizing and selection, regulator sizing and selection, instrument and valve datasheets, material compatibility with common process

Codes and Standards: NFPA 70 2 (national electrical code), ISA RP-12 (intrinsic safety), ISA S88 3 (batch), ASME BPE 4 (bioprocessing equipment), ASME BPCV 5 (pressurized vessels), ANSI 5 6 (pipe flanges and fittings), UL 508A (industrial control panels).

Control System Software Development: Control logic development, graphical user interface development, network configuration, time sequence database development, communication protocols.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, (i.e. Outlook, Word and Excel)

Familiarity with AutoCAD, and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.

Familiarity with project management/document control software.

Familiarity with construction/financial software packages.
