Description Robert Half is reviewing candidates for a renowned services company for an ambitious, determined Controller. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. The Controller position is a permanent opportunity in the Sonoma, California region and is onsite a minumum of 4 days per week.Your responsibilities in this role

Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

Manage the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is on time

Manage daily cash and prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

Evaluate, implement and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

Reviews deliverables of self and team to ensure that they meet client expectations

Capable of handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties

Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible

Requirements

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

Earlier experience in public accounting and a Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred

Self-starter and strong ethical standards

Commitment and abilities to meet critical business deadlines

Strong communication and social skills

Outstanding technology, analytics and management experience required

Previous experience working with budget management

Cash flow management experience

Well-founded grasp of cash flow statements

Financial statement preparation experience

Quality experience with Balance Sheet Reconciliation

Good understanding of Budget administration

Skills in variance analysis

Hands-on experience with US GAAP and IFRS Accounting preferred

Financial Statement experience required

General familiarity with Dynamics Ax

Wide ranging experience with Balance Sheet Reviews

Proven knowledge of Cash Flow Reports

Practical knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX

Earlier work involving Income Statements

Comprehension of Sales Tax Returns

Experience working in a dynamic and changing company environment a plus

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

Attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
