Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious individual to join our team as a driving instructor. You will be using a company vehicle and traveling to students in Santa Cruz County and teaching all necessary driving techniques while they are behind the wheel. Each lesson is 2hrs long. You must be patient, friendly and a qualified good driver with excellent driving practices.
This position requires a specific California DMV Driving Instructor License. If you don't have one already, we will help provide the instructor training and exam preparation materials to get you the necessary licensing
The work hours are generally flexible and you can choose your own schedule. Some instructors work full-time, some part-time a few days a week, some change their schedule every few months, some just work only on weekends. During the school year starting mid-August and onwards, the most demand is for Saturdays and Sundays anytime, and weekday afternoons 3pm and onwards when teens get out of school. (Morning weekday appointments during the school year are not as popular and can sometimes remain unfilled).
Our office headquarters and vehicles are in Soquel next to 41st Ave.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct 2-hr driving lessons practicing the different roadways in Santa Cruz county and following state driving regulations and curriculum standards.
- Provide thorough instruction on vehicle operation, defensive driving techniques, traffic laws, etc.
- Create a supportive and encouraging learning environment to build students' confidence and skills.
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback for improvement.
- Adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning styles and skill levels.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Ensure the safety of students and vehicles during driving lessons.
- Communicate effectively with students and parents/guardians regarding lesson schedules, progress, and concerns.
- Stay informed about changes in driving laws, regulations, and safety standards.
Requirements:
- Must be 25 years or older with a clean driving record. Background checks will be conducted
- Valid driver's license and willingness to become a licensed DMV Instructor (all training/certifications paid for by Sterling)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience and ability to remain calm in any situation.
- Previous experience in teaching, coaching, or mentoring preferred.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Location: Santa Cruz County. You must live here.
- Willing/able to work weekend days (during school year, due to demand)
- English fluency required, and bonus points if you also speak Spanish.
Benefits:
- Starting pay: $22/hr + travel time (each lesson is 2 hours long, instructor gets paid for 2.5 hours each lesson = $55 per lesson)

- Company car provided with gas card and all vehicle expenses covered.
