San Diego Jewish Academy (SDJA) is proud to offer education to children as young as 9 months through 12th grade. We are seeking mature, energetic, positive and caring team players with a heart for children to join our ECC team on a full-time, part-time, or temporary basis. We are looking for a full range of applicants to fill positions for experienced teachers, assistant teachers, and substitutes. You will be kept busy with:

Developing/implementing approved lesson plans and daily classroom schedules in accordance with SDJA curriculum and programming (Teachers)

Weekly Newsletters (Teachers)

Supervising and interacting with children by providing verbal recognition and acceptance to children while providing clear and consistent expectations for children’s behavior

Assessing each child’s developmental needs on an regular, ongoing basis

Assisting children with their basic needs in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment

Communicating with parents

Compliance with all rules and regulations for SDJA’s ECC, including local, state and national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children - ensuring that SDJA’s ECC meets or exceeds governing regulations

Accepting responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playgrounds to include cleaning and disinfecting as needed - an attractive, well-kept classroom encourages children to create, explore and make decisions with confidence

Attending staff meetings, workshops, and/or school functions

Assisting with the daily operations of the ECC as directed

You're good at:

Demonstrating warmth and patience towards children, parents, and colleagues

Working collaboratively and effectively with others with the ability not to take yourself (or others) too seriously; you know when to have fun and when to be serious

Reading, writing and communicating effectively in English

Managing priorities and maintaining confidentiality

Being flexible and remaining positive when things don’t go as planned by focusing on innovative solutions - you’re a problem solver!

Meeting and exceeding safety standards - you play by the rules and expect others to, as well​

You bring this to the table:

High level of initiative.

A passion for, and knowledge of, the social, emotional and creative needs of young children

Six months’ experience working with children, preferably in a licensed childcare facility

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with staff, infants and toddlers, parents and families

Ability to work with cleaning/sanitizing chemicals and equipment

Ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.

Sufficient mobility, strength and full range of body motion for: sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting, grasping, fine manipulation, pushing/pulling, reaching, stooping, using smell and touch, working outside and vision and hearing

Education Requirements:

Unit Requirements

Required for Teachers; strongly preferred for Teaching Assistants/Substitutes

3 units in Child/Human Growth and Development

3 units in Child, family, and community or child and family relations

6 units in Child Development Program/Curriculum

3 units in Infant Toddler Development

Compensation Range:

Teacher (must be fully qualified): $23/hour - $30/hour

Teaching Assistant: $21/hour -$23/hour

Substitutes: $25/hour (on-call, eligible for sick time)

The offer to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to: the type and years of experience; training; practical knowledge; and education.
