Department BackgroundThe Department of Elections (Department) conducts all federal, state and local elections in the City and County of San Francisco, currently serving approximately 510,000 registered voters. Applicants with such backgrounds are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.Position DescriptionIn preparation for the November 5, 2024 General Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions to join the District Support Team. This team of approximately 25 members assists in supporting 501 polling places.In addition to the duties outlined in the 1402 job code, https://careers.sf.gov/classifications/?classCode=1402&setId=COMMN, District Support Team staff will be expected to:

Participate in a paid 8-hour training session on Monday, October 28, 2024.

Begin work on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 and continue on weekdays until Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Duties will include driving a City vehicle to deliver equipment to polling places before Election Day and retrieving equipment after Election Day.

Work approximately 20 hours on Election Day on November 5, 2024. Duties will include driving a City vehicle to and from approximately 30 predetermined polling places within San Francisco, ensuring compliance with state and federal accessibility requirements under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) such as:

Installing accessibility features such as signage, threshold ramps, and other hazard mitigations.

Monitoring polling place setups throughout the day for ADA compliance.

Reporting any issues to the Department.

Please note that applicants must possess a valid California driver's license and be able provide a driving record from the Department of Motor vehicles prior to employment.Position Schedule, Requirements, and Work LocationTravel within the city is required daily. Work location will also vary within the San Francisco area. Position will require standing for a prolonged period of time, driving to various sites, setting up and using various computer software and equipment (e.g. voting equipment, etc.), lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.This is a short-term assignment that begins on Monday, October 28, 2024 and ends on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and up to a 20-hour day on Election Day. There are also additional tasks that may need to be completed on as needed basis. Overtime hours are paid at 1.5 the hourly rate.This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits.
