Elementary Assistant Teacher

MdTL is a well-established independent Montessori school in San Rafael, serving children ages 2 through 6th grade for over 55 years. We’re looking for a caring, reliable, and dedicated Lower Elementary Assistant Teacher to join our 1st–3rd grade classroom community.

Full-Time Position (40 hours/week): M-F, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Position Summary:

The Lower Elementary Assistant Teacher provides daily support to the classroom’s AMI-trained Head Teacher in a multi-aged Montessori classroom.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist Head Teacher with basic classroom management and support

Share the responsibility for the safety and physical well-being of children at all times

Be responsible for daily classroom preparation as directed by the Head Teacher

Various classroom administrative task

Supervise the yard during play time

Model appropriate behavior by demonstrating respect and care towards students and staff at all times

Help maintain a calm, engaging learning environment

Cultivate and reinforce positive behavior and independence

Requirements / Desirables:

Minimum 2 years teaching/childcare experience preferred

Montessori experience preferred

Negative TB test within 4 years

Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal

Available to start as soon as possible

Bilingual candidates are especially encouraged to apply fluent in English (required) and Spanish (preferred)
