Join a team that has the environment down to a science.Your OpportunityAs an Emergency Management Specialist with Stantec, you will have the opportunity to be a part of Stantec’s growing emergency management practice, based out of our Southern California offices, and part of our broader community resilience practice in the West. This position is within Stantec’s Environmental Services Operating Unit but would involve interacting with other Stantec Operating Units, such as Infrastructure (Community Development and Transportation), Water, Energy and Resources and Buildings.In this role, your expertise in emergency management planning, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement will be instrumental in guiding Stantec’s team to deliver outstanding project outcomes, ensuring client satisfaction, and driving project profitability throughout the entire lifecycle. In addition, you will collaborate with our West Coast resilience leaders and engage our expert resources to form teams who can deliver thoughtful, compelling proposal submittals to successfully secure new and repeat business clients.Your Key Responsibilities
Serve in a regional and/or national technical leadership role for the emergency management planning discipline.
Identify, develop, and maintain public and private client relationships and play a key role in business development, client management and satisfaction.
Manage the delivery of emergency management efforts across the phases of emergency management. This could include efforts to help our clients prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate against disasters.
Conduct and/or guide delivery of capacity-building activities including training and exercises, strategy development, inclusive facilitation, and community engagement.
Research and advise on community resilience planning best practice standards and guidance.
Prepare comprehensive plans, presentations, and functional tools to meet project needs.
Define and manage project objectives, scope, schedule, budget, contracts, subcontracts and multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure client and project team satisfaction in alignment with Stantec’s Project Management Frameworks and maintain compliance with ISO 9001 certification.
Develop a working understanding and relationships with Stantec resources across Business Operating Units (e.g., Buildings, Water, Environmental Services, Community Development, Transportation, Energy and Resources) to support growth of our emergency management and community resilience practice, and actively support cross-selling other services to existing clients.
Lead pursuits and preparation of proposals with new and existing clients.
Identify potential problems and develop effective solutions on a project.
Provide technical leadership, project coordination, and technical execution of emergency management planning services and function as a subject matter expert.
Coordinate with other Stantec emergency management planning team leads to establish best practices, talent management, assembly of project teams, and implementation of quality management plans.
Perform quality assurance/quality control reviews of work performed by others reviewing for standard of care, compliance with industry guidelines and practices, accuracy and completeness.
Manage personal and team time to meet project budget and schedule objectives.
Provide industry leadership through professional organizations including holding key technical positions, publishing technical papers, technical presentations and elevating Stantec’s brand in the emergency management planning sector.
Communicate and collaborate with the project team, project managers, clients, and local communities across dispersed geographic locations
QualificationsYour Capabilities and Credentials
Strong knowledge of infrastructure operations and maintenance projects (e.g., water, energy, transportation) and their relationship to emergency management activities.
Proven track record of project management of emergency management planning projects.
Strong knowledge of federal and state emergency management laws and regulations as well as best practice standards and guidance.
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational and collaboration skills.
Highly effective in participating in teams and leading simultaneous tasks with limited supervisory support.
Understanding and sensitivity to local cultural and political issues.
Demonstrated leadership in emergency management planning, processes, and strategies.
Proven and demonstrated high quality technical writing skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
Must have a good driving record and valid driver’s license.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in emergency management, planning, public policy, or related field; or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 10 years of experience.
Professional recognition certificate and credentials for emergency management.
Demonstrated leadership and training on implementation of the National Incident Management System operational/ Standardized Emergency Management System and Incident Command System.
You will work in an hybrid-office environment with prolonged sitting and computer work, or combination of office and field. When circumstances allow, some travel may be required (approximately 25%), such as meeting attendance at agencies or clients. The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
