Job Description

Batch and Furnace Manager

Performs a high class of mechanical, electrical/electronic, controls and instrumentation work. Assembles, installs, tests, upgrades, programs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains automated equipment and computers, circuits, controls and related components of the equipment. Provides mechanical and electrical/electronic knowledge and support to all areas of manufacturing.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Installing, servicing, repairing and performing proper maintenance of various types of plant machineries, equipment structures, component parts, electrical/electronic equipment including programmable logic controllers such Omron and Micro Logix PLC’s.
  • Installing, wiring, servicing and proper maintenance of computer controlled equipment, electrical circuits and controls, motors, meters and all other electrical or electronic equipment.
  • Research, plan, and install new upgrades to current systems. An example being the installation of the first set of Servo needles without outside assistance.
  • Plans and performs work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical and/or electronic principles, writing specification codes, properties of various materials, principles of operation and application of electrical and/or electronic equipment such as motors, switches, control boards, generators, circuit breakers, electronic inspection units, etc.
  • Reads schematics, works from complex blue prints, wiring diagrams, shop hand books, layouts and other specifications to determine materials and working procedures needed in the maintenance of plant machinery, structures, and electronic or electrical equipment.
  • Responsible for installing, repairing and maintaining the following equipment but are not limited to: Electro/servo ramp testers, servo needles, computer controls on compressors, ultrasonic hydro-mixer level detector, radiators for machine cooling, MCS, inverter control for North Cooling Tower, central machine alarm indicators for all lube panels and servo equipment, computer controlled lathe, computer controlled water softener, air conditioning units.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment and components to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem and failure on all such equipment.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures and ensure safety of system.
  • Develops, installs, programs, maintains, and repairs systems such as laser detection system for Shear Lube Viscosity, laser eye detectors, double tier sheet detection, packaging line tracking system, electrostatic precipitator and CEMS monitoring systems.
  • Responsible for collecting, changing electronic format, distribution and storing the EP and CEMS data for the EPA records.
  • Manage projects for upgrades and new installations for the plant by planning, finding all specs and requirements for the installation; sourcing out the materials, ordering the materials, scheduling and implementing the action plan.
  • Must be able to research projects, pricing out parts from various vendors, ordering parts and installation.
  • Services plant computer network including new programmable switches and computer drops.
  • Constructs rigging and scaffolding; moves heavy machinery and equipment; lubricates greases, oils, etc., plant machinery and equipment.
  • Assists, trains and provides mechanical and electrical/electronic expertise to maintenance journeyman in operating electrical and mechanical equipment adhering to safety standards.
  • Cleans work area and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

Batch and Furnace Manager

  • Must be able to pass amechanicalskills test in order to be considered.
  • 5 years of industrial electrical mechanical experience.
  • Experience with 440/480v electrical components.
  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work a rotating schedule, with weekend and holiday requirements.
