Engineering Manager - Consumer Health Fintech Company

Location: you can either work remotely or in the company's office in San Francisco (which they plan to open around Q3 2023)

The company's product involves Health, Fintech, and Concierge Tech. The company is mission-driven and their mission is to help families.The company has about 80 employees and 10 engineers (both are about double what they were 1 year ago) and is rapidly growing.The company will pay up to $220k in base salary plus yearly bonuses plus equity which could be valuable.

Job Responsibilities:- Managing 3-4 engineers a mix of front end and backend engineers. The team may grow to become 5-7 engineers within 1 year.- Tech stack: Python, React, Next.js, TypeScript, mostly Google Cloud Platform, some AWS.Time spent will be roughly as follows:- 20-25% project planning and estimation, helping the team with that.- 25% people management - mentoring, performance management, giving feedback, making sure the team is on track, addressing any blockers.- 25% working with engineering leadership - working with other engineering managers to improve processes for the overall engineering team. Figuring out operational processes to put in place.- 15% code reviews and design reviews, participating in design discussions.- 10-15% communicating with the executive team on projects and how they're going, what challenges there are, how to improve the lives of the engineers.- You are not expected to do any coding. if you want to, you can spend at most 10-15% of your time coding.

Qualifications:- Industry experience with at least one of: 1) health tech, and/or 2) fintech.- At least 2 years or experience managing a team of at least 3 engineers.- Experience with both front end and backend engineering (either as a manager and/or as an individual contributor).- Comfortable doing technical deep dives with them and giving technical direction.- Solid ability in Python. Very comfortable doing code reviews.- Knowledge of React. Understanding of how it works. Able to do code reviews.- Understanding of the business considerations of both front end and backend engineering.- Strong ability to take ownership of projects and drive them to successful completion.- Understanding of infrastructure as code, and ability to provide guidance to the team on that.- Dynamic personality, great communicator.
