Job title: Engineering Manager
Reports to: General Manager and Owner
Plastic extrusion tooling manufacturer, located in San Marcos, CA, has an exciting opening for the engineering manager position. Our current engineering manager is retiring. We are looking for an experienced (10 years +) mechanical and/ or plastics engineer who has deep experience in metal tooling design and building, for plastic extrusion tooling (candidates with the same experience in other types of plastic processing tooling are encouraged to apply). Our growth has been a function of having great experience in the engineering department so we can collaborate with our customers and be an extension of their process engineering function. We are just stepping over the threshold of taking this company to the next level. Ideally the right candidate will be “hands-on”, have experience in plastic extrusion tooling (or similar plastic processing tooling) design, tool building, production management, as well customer and vendor interaction. This position will report to the general manager/owner.
Historical Duties and Responsibilities:
Engineering Tasks:
Design annular dies and associated tooling for plastic extrusion applications
Familiar with all of the machine tools to develop best method of production.
Analyze and develop tooling solutions for customer’s applications
Use Computational Fluid Dynamic analysis and polymer profile design to optimize the flow path for the customer’s
applications.
Present CFD simulation results to customer and recommend design solutions
Model all tooling using Creo
Prepare detail drawings for programming and production using Creo
Assign part numbers to new drawings.
Set up jobs from Sales Order Acknowledgements
Assist Sales Department in determining the correct part (s) to quote
Maintain and organize Creo data files
Maintain AutoCAD data files
Design Jigs and Fixtures as needed for production
Engineering Department Manager:
Participate in sales calls with customers and prospects to address technical details
Manage production personnel
Sequence production backlog
Resolve issues around production assets
Coordinate facility expansion and or acquisitions
Evaluate and recommend/purchase new production equipment

Assist with production personnel recruitment, hiring and training
Qualifications include:
College degree in mechanical engineering or plastics engineering or equivalent
10 years of proven experience in metal tooling design and building
Great troubleshooter
Organized as related to drawing management and details.
Experience with Creo or equivalent software packages
