Environmental Education Specialist

Hours: 25-35 hrs. / week

Location: San Luis Obispo County & Northern Santa Barbara County

Compensation: $25.00-$32.00 per hour

Signing Bonus: $300 after 90 days

Monthly Wellness allowance: $100, plus 40.00 Hours Paid Sick Leave/year

By engaging learners of all ages, you can help them understand, appreciate, and explore the vital natural resources we all depend on. With our extensive training and observation opportunities, you will be well-equipped to successfully apply your skills to the impactful programs that the Environmental Education Specialist brings to schools.

Description:

The Environmental Education Specialist (EES) drives to schools throughout San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties to give class programs. In most cases, a company van is provided for transportation. Topics presented include Recycling, Vermicomposting, Water Conservation, Stormwater Pollution Prevention, Marine Debris, Wastewater Facilities, Lakes, and the Salinas River. Workdays include up to six class programs or a combination of several class programs and one field trip. Other miscellaneous tasks include preparing and maintaining teaching materials, training sessions, office administration, and staff meetings.

Science Discovery also provides live, virtual education programs through our studio.

Hours / Day

Monday – Friday

As early as 7:00 am and as late as 4:30 pm

Occasional weekend or evening hours may be required

Qualifications

Coursework in Environmental Studies or a closely related field

At least one year of relevant experience, volunteer or paid

Requirements

Experience in presenting science-based topics to multiple grade levels

Skills and knowledge to adjust presentations depending on classroom or environmental conditions

Excellent communication skills

Ability to work well with children

Capacity to be a self-starter and work independently as needed

Team-oriented work ethic

Flexible weekly schedule

Lift and carry 30 pounds for a distance of 50 feet

Completion of background check

Applicants should have excellent speaking/teaching skills and the ability to monitor and adjust as the situation requires. Your

presentation style is lively and engaging. You can create a meaningful and fun learning environment in any situation. A science

background is helpful, but not mandatory.
