Amick Brown is seeking an experienced

Equipment Development Engineer for our direct client.

Location: Sunnyvale, CA 94086. Duration: 6 Months with possible extension.

Description: The Automation, Equipment and Test (AET) Team is responsible for making the robots that make the robots. We develop and maintain equipment, fixtures, and tooling that optimize and streamline the manufacturing process of instruments and accessories. The engineer in this position will play a key role on the Equipment Engineering team to enable the manufacture of new surgical robotic instruments and accessories. This engineer will develop the controls for automated laser welding processes. The position will require close collaboration with the laser services team, laser welding equipment suppliers, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and quality engineers to build reliable laser welding equipment and processes

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with custom automated equipment, preferably laser welding equipment, from design and/or supplier specification, through fabrication, to sustained production use, and will have demonstrated proficiency in integration of mechanical and electromechanical components, and creation of associated software.
  • Development of PLC and SW controls.
  • Identify and develop automation of manufacturing and test processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement projects in the test and equipment space to increase manufacturing yields, improve test coverage, diagnostic capability, productivity, and error proofing.
  • Thoroughly document all aspects of the equipment, including its requirements, design, operation, and qualification in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Perform design review of Test and Manufacturing equipment and tooling related to new product launches.
  • Develop reports to statistically analyse test measurements and optimize pass/fail criteria.
  • Determine the root cause of equipment and system test failures.
  • Execute equipment design and process verification/validation activities to qualify changes to test processes or test specifications.

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:
  • Candidate must be of high character and energy with focused attention to detail.
  • 3+ years directly related experience is required
  • Experience developing production grade, automated test fixtures.
  • Programming Allen Bradley PLCs RSLinx and Studio 5000
  • Wonderware
  • C, Matlab, Python or other programming/scripting language.
  • PLC-driven motor controllers
  • HMI functionality (specifically with relation to PLC)
  • Ethernet messaging using AB PLC
  • Microsoft SQL Server databases and queries
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and layouts.
  • Serial communication
  • Ethernet/IP protocol
  • State machines implemented in ladder logic
  • General hardware debugging techniques
  • Digital and Analog I/Os
  • Pneumatic controls
  • "Self-starter" attitude and comfort in a hands-on environment, where you can demonstrate an ability to work with other engineers, technicians, and contract manufacturers.
  • Troubleshooting mindset - an ability to systematically and effectively break down a system or process into subparts to identify failures and troubleshoot to component level.
  • Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing across all levels of the organization.
  • BSME, BSEE, Software Engineering, Mechatronics.

Preferred:
  • MSEE/MSME
  • Experience in PLC programming and/or Data Acquisition tools.
  • Machine Vision debugging techniques.
  • Machine Vision programming using Cognex In-Sight Explorer.
  • Laser control using Lanmark Control's Maestro Galvo Controller via .wlj file
  • Experience with documentation and production control systems: Agile, SAP.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and optimizing automated welding systems.
  • Experience in test engineering/
  • Medical device company or other regulated business experience.
