We at Bettina are currently looking to hire a talented and experienced cook to come on board as Executive Chef. We're looking for a chef who shares our passion for great food and hospitality and possesses the drive to lead a kitchen team in a fast, high pressure environment. The Executive Chef will report directly to the owners, and will be given creative liberty for menu development while striving to create an atmosphere wholly dedicated to excellent cuisine, efficient production, professionalism, and fun.

The range of responsibilities for this position will include ordering, inventory management, food costing, and expediting food, along with creating new and inspired dishes using ingredients from the Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market, where we shop twice a week. Seasonality is an extremely important element to our restaurant. Applicants should have a passion for shopping the farmers market and meticulous sourcing. We're looking for someone with experience in seasonal Italian cooking, knowledge of fermentation and pickling, and the ability to use ingredients to their full potential with little waste. The Executive Chef should feel comfortable teaching cooking techniques and developing new recipes, while maintaining quality control by overseeing our team of cooks. A minimum of 2 years previous head chef, sous chef, or management experience is required.

Bettina has been awarded a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin guide in California for the last four years, and has been featured in multiple publications including Eater, Food and Wine, and the LA Times. Bettina was also recently featured on Diner's, Drive Ins, and Dives.

Located in Santa Barbara in the historic Montecito Country Mart and a half mile from Butterfly Beach, Bettina is a neighborhood restaurant serving naturally leavened wood-fired pizzas and simple, seasonal Italian-inspired fare. Bettina was opened by Rachel Greenspan and Brendan Smith in October of 2018. The husband-and-wife team moved to Santa Barbara County in 2014 from New York City, where Rachel worked in specialty food sales and Brendan worked as the head baker at Roberta’s pizza in Brooklyn. After catering with their mobile wood-fired pizza oven for several years, the restaurant is the next step in the couple’s mission to build community through hospitality and good food.
