Be involved in projects with our Ground Engineering & Materials, Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. Take part in providing local geotechnical engineering for the design, development, and construction of mining, solid waste, infrastructure, and other projects in the public and private sector.The focus of the work includes implement geotechnical explorations, conducting geotechnical engineering analysis, leading site characterization plans, and leading project delivery teams.Your ImpactLeading and managing projects as an experienced team player

Performing and overseeing geotechnical explorations

Defining site characterizations

Performing and guiding co-workers through geotechnical analyses

Preparing and reviewing technical reports

Preforming and preparing co-workers for documenting and inspecting ground construction activity

Developing business relationships and communicating with internal and external clients

Building on project management skills appropriate to your level and background

Demonstrating safety leadership and comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures

Work as an individual and as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects

Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.

Remain current in latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You AreRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related discipline.

5 to 7 years of relevant post education work experience related to geotechnical engineering

Competent in overseeing geotechnical explorations including drilling a sampling programs and logging soil

Competent in selecting representative soil and rock samples for laboratory testing to support site characterization, including shear strength characterization

Undertaking assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home office.

Comfortable working in remote settings.

Understanding of computer-based slope stability software.

Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors, drillers, and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred QualificationsMaster’s Degree in Engineering.

Professional Engineer registration in California.

Competent overseeing rock coring and logging rock core

Experience with application of foundation capacity analysis in cold regions and permafrost ground conditions.

Understanding of computer-based deep foundation axial and lateral capacity software.
