We are looking for a dynamic, empathetic senior design leader who puts people first, and can focus on executing a strategic vision for design at SVB, growing the design team and practice, collaborating with cross-functional partners and supporting the design team to do their best work to create great end-to-end experiences for our clients and associates. You'll report to the Chief Product Officer (in the short term) and then the Head of Digital and Operating Solutions, a new role in the future.

In this role:

You'll be the Head of Design for SVB's Product Design team and accountable for achieving our end-to-end digital experience goals . You'll partner closely with product and technology leaders to build new and to expand existing digital solutions to ensure they meet the needs of our clients and internal associates . You'll help lead, support and grow an existing team of user researchers, product designers, service designers, content strategists and design operations experts and champion user-centered design across the bank.

Must have s

  • Experience as an inclusive people leader who supports, empowers and enables designers to do their best work , grow in their craft and develop as leaders

  • Deep experience in managing all aspects of a Design strategy and product design - designing and executing on exploratory, foundational, concept validation and usability studies to develop a deep understanding of our clients, including life-stage, segment and role, and their expectations of SVB and our digital channels, as well as building UX/UI as part of a product development process.
  • Experience leading an effective Design function in an at-scale national or global bank, and working with S mall and Medium Businesses and/or Commercial banking clients and solutions
  • Experience m anaging a large portfolio of fast-moving product design initiatives, providing the right staffing and operating model to support the portfolio.
  • The ability to craft and deliver compelling strategic stories/narratives to the Bank's leadership team, the Executive Committee and the broader company about the importance, role and impact of design
  • A track record of building strong relationships, influenc ing partners, and effectively manage designers to thrive in ambiguity

Nice to have

  • A Bachelor degree or advanced degree in Design, Human Computer Interaction , Business, Technology OR equivalent work experience
  • Experience working in and helping to lead digital transformation initiatives, including cohesive and unified digital platforms and ecosystems versus standalone products in an agile environment

What You'll Do

  • Help drive and be a change agent for the creation and execution of the end-to-end digital user experience strategy for the Commercial Bank. Ensure that the strategy is reflective of client needs, user experience principles, technology capabilities, operational service design and risk management
  • Work closely with Product leaders to design their multi-year strategies and co-design new solutions to meet the evolving client and market need. Leverage the right research and design methodology depending on the need and situation.
  • Work with partners in Technology and Marketing to own and build reusable assets, services, and platform that will be leveraged across the enterprise to standardize user experience and accelerate time to market through reusability.
  • Provide direct leadership to a team of talented multi-disciplinary and complete design leaders and team members - product designers, user researchers, content strategists and design operations. Influence a large number of product managers, marketers, engineers , and operational experts across partner teams aligned with the digital strategy.

  • Provide strategic t hought leadership to the Chief Product Officer, the Product, Marketing, and Technology. Work with partners across the bank on how to best design for the user, leverag e design method ology, connect front and back-end platforms and experiences and continuously improve and scale our design and product development processes.
  • Help develop the strategy and methods for scaling knowledge of design, design methods and the design process across the bank.
  • Work in partnership with leaders outside of commercial banking to evangelize an iterative client centered approach while demonstrative strategic systems problem solving and impact.
  • Model and create a culture of psychological safety and inclusion for Design and partners while scaling and managing practice of design.
