We are looking for a Horizontal Directional Drill Operator and Locator to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a min. 5 years of experience operating Vermeer/Ditch Witch HDD Machines.

You will be responsible for installing underground conduits of various packages and sizes using Vermeer directional drills or similar equipment. You will be required to operate the directional drilling machinery and related tools to ensure efficient and safe installation of the conduit. You must be proficient with reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and other technical documents. The role of a Horizontal/Directional Drill Operator and Locator includes operating horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment, and product support equipment.

Additionally, you should be knowledgeable in the maintenance and servicing of directional drilling equipment.

Qualifications:

Min. 5 years of experience drilling with Vermeer or similar directional drill.

Familiar with the F5 locating system.

Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

Sit/Stand for long periods of time.

Perform directional drilling in various environments.

Must be able to work weekends and/or overtime as needed.

Horizontal/Directional Drill Operator Responsibilities:

Operates horizontal directional drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable.

Must be able to perform semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating and must be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.

Read and understand utility locates and above-ground utility indicators to ensure the safety of yourself and the crew members.

Coordinates daylighting/potholing of underground facilities.

Ensures safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.

Load/Off-Load and transport heavy equipment to and from the job sites.

Setup and cleanup of the work site including traffic and pedestrian control.

Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications.

Level earth to the final grade specifications.

Operates vehicles from trucks to a multitude of other equipment as directed and certified.

Performs proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs to equipment.

Leads teams in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor.

Must be able to travel when needed.

Locator Responsibilities:

Confirm the bore path with the install foreman and drill operator (including walking the bore path).

Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork.

Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards.

Record the depth of the tool head as required.

Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product.

Oversee laborers and/or crew member’s work to ensure the safety of all team members.

Essential Education:

High School Diploma or GED
