Works independently and strategically to identify, project plan, implement and monitor supply chain expense or utilization opportunities to optimize total organizational expenses. The Category Manager works collaboratively with clinical and operational leadership in a team based environment to optimize the selection, standardization and utilization of product and services for the organization.The Category Manger is responsible for the strategic oversight of portfolios through the development and monitoring of a pipeline of projects for assigned portfolio. In addition, this position has operational responsibility in collaboration with Supply Chain subdivisions to ensure that product and services are priced accurately, available timely, carried in the appropriate quantities and locations, and delivered in the most efficient manner to meet patient care needs.

  • Job Description
    • Responsible for optimal product and services selection, standardization, pricing, contracting, purchasing, and servicing of end users for a group products under the direction of leadership.
    • Performs management duties of assigned purchasing and sourcing team members to ensure streamlined, efficient, accurate, and timely processing of all requisitions.
    • Manages staffing requirements and Human Resource issues.
    • Coordinates the hiring and training of all positions within the category team.
    • Promotes professional growth and development of staff through in-service education and other programs.
    • Independently develops and maintains productive relationships with suppliers, health system operations leaders, and procurement staff to facilitate comprehensive category strategies that optimize pricing, quality, utilization and standardization across the system.
    • Monitors assigned portfolio expenses and identifies pricing opportunities to lower organizational expenses via benchmarking and analysis of external market data sources.
    • Independently develops and directs complex bid solicitation, proposal review and vendor negotiations to optimize contractual terms including, but not limited to, pricing.
    • Ensures accuracy, data integrity, and validity of data analysis in all work.
    • Conducts competitive analysis and bidding, independetly develops and executes negotiation strategies with suppliers and implements required contractual agreements for assigned product and service categories.
    • Evaluates all contractual agreements and proposals for organizational risk and adherence to guidelines established by departments such as Corporate Finance and Treasury.
    • Fulfills all supply chain database, documentation and reporting requirements.
    • Ensures timely review of all offers and upcoming contract expirations to evaluate potential impacts to the organization and mitigate risks associated with such.
    • Provides leadership and direction to assigned staff in negotiation strategies and monitors the work of others to ensure timely and accurate work documents and analysis are completed.
    • Standardization efforts are conducted from a system approach and require collaboration with end users from all Geisinger entities.
    • Monitor internal and external compliance against contracts and works with operations to mitigate risk of non compliance if identified.
    • Meets with suppliers and end-users to assess and improve performance.
    • Where required, performs in depth analysis on each Product or Service opportunity or request to ensure all financial analysis work is accurate and thorough.
    • Serves as lead in the absence of the leadership.
    • Assists in the establishment and implementation of processes, policies and procedures.
