Description An HR Generalist is responsible for managing various aspects of human resources work including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits administration, training, performance management, onboarding, and legal compliance. This professional often plays a crucial role in the day to day operations of the HR department and handles policy implementation and HR workflow procedures.Key responsibilities might include:

Developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy.

Managing the recruitment and selection process.

Supporting business needs through organizational development and personnel management.

Overseeing employee compensation and benefits.

Ensuring legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records.

Maintaining management guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies and procedures.

Supporting employee development, including delivering training and workshops.

Managing HR information through quality documentation and up-to-date databases.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree: This is typically in human resources, business administration, or a related field. Some organizations may favor candidates with a Master’s degree in human resources or a relevant certification like the PHR (Professional in Human Resources).

Experience: Many employers prefer applicants with a few years of experience in HR roles. The level of experience required often depends on the seniority of the position.

Knowledge: Deep knowledge of employment laws and regulations. Proficiency with HRM software, as well as data input and reporting, can also be necessary.

Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential due to the amount of interaction with employees at all levels within the company. Organizational skills, problem-solving skills, decision-making, and leadership are also relevant.

Discretion: HR Generalists often handle confidential information, so they must be trustworthy and able to maintain discretion.

Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and capability to handle pressure and managing multiple tasks at once.

Emotional Intelligence: High EQ is often required given the amount of human interaction involved in the role. They should know how to handle sensitive issues tactfully and keep their personal feelings in check.
