This is a tactical, hands-on role ideal for a detail-oriented HR professional who enjoys managing processes, solving problems, and keeping clients organized and compliant.The HR Consultant will serve as the primary day-to-day point of contact for assigned clients, handling the full range of HR operations — from onboarding and employee changes to reporting, terminations, and compliance audits. The right candidate will thrive in a client-facing environment, be a strong communicator, and bring both a strategic lens and a customer-service mindset to their work.This position is primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings or site visits in Marin and Sonoma counties.About YouBachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field, strongly preferred; 4+ years of HR generalist experience with strong tactical execution skills or combination of education and experience to gain skills necessary to complete essential functions of this role.Demonstrated ability to manage the full employee life cycle independently.Strong working knowledge of California employment law and compliance requirements.HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent) a plus.Excellent communication, organization, and customer service skills.Self-starter who thrives in a remote, client-facing role with minimal supervision.Proficient in HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Gusto, BambooHR, ADP) and Google Workspace.Must reside within a reasonable distance of Petaluma (94952) for occasional in-person client visits.Key Responsibilities | Essential FunctionsServe as the first point of contact for assigned clients, providing responsive, professional HR support.Manage the employee life cycle: onboarding, changes, leaves of absence, performance tracking, and separations.Conduct HR compliance audits, prepare findings, and support implementation of recommendations.Draft and maintain job descriptions, policies, and employee handbooks aligned with California law.Track HR metrics, prepare reports, and ensure documentation accuracy.Advise clients on tactical HR issues and escalate complex matters to senior consultants as needed.Support recruitment efforts including posting, screening, and coordinating interviews.Collaborate with clients to improve HR systems and workflows.Stay informed of employment law changes and communicate updates to clients.Deliver outstanding customer service and build strong, trusting client relationships.CompensationThis is a part-time, hourly position paid within the range of $35 to $50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
