Innovation Division: Computer Vision Scientist, Visual Scene Understanding for Robotics/ Automotive Mobile Platforms in San Jose, CA
Summary: The Innovation Division of a global automotive company in San Jose, California, is seeking a Computer Vision Scientist in Visual Scene Understanding. We’re seeking expertise focused on research and development of computer vision and machine learning algorithms and systems to support socially aware cooperative systems that understand and interpret scenes in mixed autonomy environments. Qualified candidates will have their PhD with a strong publication record in top conferences with work context and understanding scenes from mobile platforms: robots or cars and implementing those scenes, anticipating, and predicting what is going to happen next. Candidates with social elements experience such as yielding to each other, altruistic, egocentric, etc. are also strongly encouraged to apply, although this experience is not required. We are looking for a Computer Vision Scientist passionate about tackling challenging problems in next generation mobility systems. Responsibilities:- Research and development of computer vision and machine learning algorithms that enable analysis, interpretation, understanding, forecasting of situations and behaviors in complex scenes to support decision making of socially aware mobility systems.
- Support creation of benchmark datasets for training and evaluation of algorithms, including experiment design, sensor calibration, managing data collection, creating data annotation guidelines, and managing annotation work with outside vendors.
- Design, development, and integration of software systems and architectures necessary to realize research prototypes.
- Develop and evaluate metrics to verify reliability of proposed algorithms.
- Contribute to a portfolio of patents, academic publications, and prototypes to demonstrate research value.
- Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
- Strong understanding scenes from mobile platforms: robots, cars, etc.
- 2-5+ years of relevant experience.
- Strong understanding scenes from mobile platforms: robots, cars, etc.
- Strong familiarity with machine learning techniques used in mobility systems.
- Familiarity with scene modeling and interpretation using spatiotemporal graphs, scene graphs, graph convolution networks, or similar graphical modeling techniques.
- Experience in open-source Deep Learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- Highly proficient in software engineering using C and Python.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including development and delivery of presentations, proposals, and technical documents.
- Strong publication record, particularly in computer vision and/or machine learning
- Social elements experience such as yielding to each other, altruistic, egocentric, etc.
- Hands-on experience in handling multi-modal sensor data preferred
