Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education, and community service goals of the University. The OIT Information Security Division is responsible for information security policy interpretation, standards, guidance, reviews, communication, and coordination, as well as providing central security services including security of network and identity infrastructure and leading campus security incident response.IT Security Engineer applies moderately complex IT security concepts, campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve a variety of IT security problems. Works on IT security problems and projects of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Helps manage endpoint security detection and response (EDR) products. Performs vulnerability scanning and communications with campus partners as part of the vulnerability management program. Analysis and classification of security events using SIEM and other tools, and reporting of security metrics in support of the campus security operations center (SOC).Total Compensation:In addition to the salary range listed below, we offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding. - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Demonstrated skills applying security controls to computer software and hardware. Working knowledge of Office word, spreadsheets, diagramming, and Wiki software. Experience using IT security systems and tools. Knowledge of data encryption techniques. Experience analyzing logs for security breaches. Ability to follow department processes and procedures.
- Basic skill at reading and interpreting security logs, both in raw format and part of a SIEM. Ability to work independently, keeping track of a number of continuing problems, requests, and projects. Ability to work on several tasks concurrently. Basic knowledge of TCP/IP-based networking. Ability to work within both a Linux and Windows environment.
- Working knowledge of at least one high-level programming language, and skill in the design, writing, testing and debugging of computer programs or command language scripts. Demonstrated experience creating spreadsheets, reports, charts, technical diagrams, and presentations supporting IT security needs.
- Basic knowledge of incident response procedures.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Knowledge of other areas of IT, department processes and procedures.
