Position Overview:Under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Lab Assistant performs Laboratory procedures in phlebotomy, central (specimen) processing and reception. Supports laboratory and management in achieving the goals of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:Reception/Registration-Greets patient using PAMF CARES practice, releasing appropriate orders in EPIC to Sunquest.

Phlebotomy-Draw patients accurately in a timely manner as well.

Central Processing-Receive, process, track and send specimens.

Information Management-Manage and distribute patient results and handle external inquiries, add-ons and trouble shooting accurately.

Inventory Management-Stocks all pre-analytical work areas with supplies as necessary.

Processes sample and prepares transport speciment.

Qualifications:EDUCATION:High School Diploma or GED required.

Medical Receptionist Program preferred.

LICENSURES & CERTIFICATIONS:Current Certified Phlebotomy Technician I or II (CPT I / CPT II) required upon hire.

Current Basic Life Certification - BLS (American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider) required upon hire.

Mobile Lab Tech - Valid California Drivers License and Current Automobile Insurance required upon hire.

EXPERIENCE:1 plus years of Phlebotomy experience required.

ADVANCEMENT: To be eligible for advancement to LA II, one must have 2 years (or equivalent) experience as a LA I, demonstrate excellent performance and proficiency in at least 1 area from LA II including the essential functions TBD.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Clinical Laboratory and patient care environment with frequent exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous materials. Majority of work requires standing and/or walking for long periods of time.

For Mobile Lab Tech:

Must have reliable transportation

Will travel to contracted facilities and perform venipuncture & micro collection technique on patients’ offsite from the main laboratory.

Will be trained in handling and transportation of clinical samples.

Will transport phlebotomy supplies to offsite contacted facility.
