Position Overview:Under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Lab Assistant performs laboratory procedures in phlebotomy, central (specimen) processing and reception. Supports laboratory and management in achieving the goals of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.Qualifications:Education, Licensures, andCertifications:HS Diploma Required Or equivalent education/experience
Other Medical Receptionist Program Preferred
Certified Phlebotomy Technician Level II - CPT II Required
Certified Phlebotomy Technician Level I - CPT I Required Upon Hire
Basic Life Support Certification - BLS Required Upon Hire
Experience:3 years (or equivalent) experience as a LA II, demonstrate excellent performance and proficiency in at least 2 areas from LA III including the essential functions Required
Skills and Knowledge:Knowledge of laboratory procedures and medical terminology
Knowledge and technical skills associated with veni-puncture procedures
Basic knowledge of how to operate and troubleshoot all essential laboratory and office equipment
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to details when verifying information, performing venipuncture procedures, labeling specimens and recording activities
Ability to problem solve internalexternal issues
Strong customer satisfaction capability
Basic computer skills to include keyboarding, mouse movement and data entry skills to enter information into practice management and EHR.
Ability to effectively organize and prioritize tasks in order to complete assignments within the time allotted and maintain standard workflow
Ability to work in a team setting collaborating with clinic staff and physicians
Legible handwriting
Ability to maintain composure during challenging interpersonal interactions
Strong verbal/written communication and active listening skills; including excellent interpersonal skills and telephone communication
Ability to stand for the majority of the work time
Bilingual in one other language is desired for this role to better serve the community and patient population, preferred
SpecialRequirements:Clinical Laboratory and patient care environment with frequent exposure to blood-borne pathogens and hazardous materials. Majority of work requires standing and/or walking for long periods of time.
For Mobile Lab Tech:Must have reliable transportation
Will travel to contracted facilities and perform venipuncture & micro collection technique on patients’ offsite from the main laboratory.
Will be trained in handling and transportation of clinical samples.
Will transport phlebotomy supplies to offsite contacted facility.
